| Post subject: | Paypal donation charging a fee |
I like to donate to LDDB every year around the Holiday. It appears that paypal is applying a fee despite me choosing the "send to family" option. This also happens with the paypal.me link provided on the donate page. This did not happen in previous years I have donated. Did something change? What should I do? |

I think there's a fee if the account is another country. |

So (just as a figure example) if someone donates US $10 to LDDB you only get US $7.01 of that US $10 figure?!?! Profit is not a dirty word & all that but FFS that is taking the p**s imo. Can donations be made in a way where if someone donates whatever amount you actually receive said amount? . |

IIRC, Paypal will let you choose if the sender sends $12.99 for $10 net or if the recipient only get $7.01. Sending a standard Paypal invoice would cost 3.7~3.9% + $0.30 which gives $0.67 to $0.69 or ~4.5x less costly. I guess "Family and Friends" is an insult in Paypal's business world? Julien |

Just went back and it looks like if I send $10 USD then there is a $1 fee with a bank transfer and $1.58 with credit card. This is sending it as "family". If I choose "item or service", it just says $10 but I'm sure there will be a fee on the recipient side. Is there really no better (less fees) way of donating? |

This summer I decided to sell some stuff on eBay to offset the cost of some stupid stuff I was buying. I eventually came to decide that it’s not worth it for me. PayPal/eBay get almost, what, %30 of the sale? And they control the price of shipping. Unless you run your eBay shop like Scrooge making any money at all can be hard. Money spent on bubble wrap, time spent going to the post office, the price of ink for the printer. You sell something for $20 and spend $12 just getting it out the door...you either have to make eBay your job or just rip people off. The casual seller experience is totally gone. Then consider how many people use Paypal Credit to pay for the stuff and realize that they are getting another %27 on top of it all in many cases. There’s greed and then there’s just...whatever this is. I’m wondering what they’re going to do once they are taking %100+ of the seller’s take. Figure out some kickback pyramid system no doubt... |

13-15% depending on the category. You have to bake shipping in to your sale price due to their bs with max shipping prices per category. As far as printer ink goes unless you really need high quality stuff getting cheap non-oem ink is the way to go. Oem ink prices are insane. |

I have to jack up something like an LD an extra pound to get the correct price on the bay, sometimes if I do make an extra .30 cents on shipping not counting tape etc. |
