Post subject: Bought a New Kenwood LVD - K5100 - Need help, some problems Posted: 14 Sep 2017, 21:14 |

Hello,
So I just bought a new Kenwood LVD-K5100 LD Player, as it was the only somewhat new model in a local old shop I thought would make up for my older dodgy LD player, instead of ordering one online. It was on display as a demo unit, I think, for years in the store, but technically new, and looks new, however, I'm running into a few problems.
Firstly it does not come with any kind of remote, and it did come with a box and manual. The manual doesn't even make mention of any kind of remote, and I have no way to skip to parts specific parts within chapters as well.
What kind of remote can be used with this player and where can it be purchased?
Second, I just popped in a few Laserdiscs and I see all kinds of heavy noise, heavy straight and swiggyly lines in random places, red colors in particular tend filled with moving lines and I also see random worn "Vhs" quality in the picture.
I had to turn down the color, and contrast and turn up the brightness to get a semi-decent picture. I just doesnt feel right.
I am using a fake late 2000's CRT TV, but I do not see issues with my VHS, DVD or other retro video games systems that I also use with it and I even plug them into the same wall with the same cords and UPS and once again barely see issues. Weird coloring can sometimes happen to a small degree with them but once adjusted it is fine, but not with the laserdisc player.
BTW, I noticed this issue with all the other old but used LD players I had.
What can I purchase to completly fix this image quality problem? Mind you, manually repairing the LD player and/or shipping it to someone is out of the question.
Let me know how you can help asap. Thanks

LD is a noisy format, you see it a lot in reds. Your TV needs to be calibrated to make the most of it.
However it sounds like you are saying it looks worse than VHS and that shouldn't be the case.
Many things can add to noise in general such as vibration, dried out capacitors, etc but a huge one is crosstalk. If the laser is out of alignment you'll get crosstalk on CLV discs, described as a herring bone pattern. Do you have any CAV discs and do they look look significantly better?

Hello,
Showing a pic wouldn't help, I've pretty much already described the range of issues that are usually present in each video in varying degrees.
Two questions:
1.How can i improve the picture quality so it top notch and how it was originally meant to be?
2. Where can I buy a remote for this particular model?
Can anyone help me out?

Can anyone help me out? Pictures would help us try to figure out if this model of LD player is a rebadged Pioneer, Panasonic, Philips, etc. player. Knowing that, we can then try to help you find a compatible remote.

Please find the pictures of everything in the link below, pics need to be downloaded : https://we.tl/RJ0JrRMWUvNotes: Okay here we go. TV is a supercom semi-CRT screen from 2007. LD is Freddy's Dead, it is the Image Entertainment release from 1992, had some very mild scratches. Player and TV settings are pictured. The second setting that is pictured towards the end, which includes the pics that follow, is what i usually use for everything. As you can tell, the picture quality is even worse with this setting. \ How can you guys help? Thanks

- If you're using composite, try S-Video and vice versa
- Turn off any DNR on the screen side
The Supercom is a computer monitor designed for PC VGA signals I suppose? Not much parameters you can tweak on the screen side? Julien
