I think from the original situation is that Sony changed the order of rings to female plugs and that's why he needed to pay an engineer to figure
the order.
Not like we wouldn't be able to do this with a multi meter, some shrink tubing and 30-60 minutes.

Edit: but not everybody can do everything.

Hi it's not. I got that exact same one and it would not work with my TV. I got about 6 different ones and none would work. The one my mate made which i showed you the picture did.

Anyway, it’s probably the same as this thing: https://supershop.store/products/sony-o ... 2pEALw_wcB

Sorry I should have quoted you and said I got the exact same lead from Sony. It would not work. I could get no leads like that that worked. As I said i know nothing about engineering or electronics so I had to go to someone who did. Fair enough?

I just did some thinking and I guess it’s logical that there would be a change in the design. The old pigtails were made for combining L/R/CV into a TRRS plug. The new ones have no audio and are meant to combine Y (which is likely wired to CV also) Pb, and Pr into the same plug.

Even though Sony didn’t need to flip anything (it’s still three 1V RF signals with a shared ground) they probably did when the ends of the female leads did. Mine is “component colored” and the ones were red yellow and green. If I had one of each I’d pin them out.

So if one had one of the old ones it may not work but it could be easily fixed just by switching the wires around.

Fair enough but for people like me who know nothing about electronics or general engineering it comes down to "This does work" "What do I do?" Answer: Call Ghostbusters.... Only kidding. You go to someone who knows about TV design and the TV concerned.

Just for the record here is a screen grab from my Sony TV with the laserdisc playing and every digital enhancement feature on my TV turned off.

What i found interesting was i was seeing a level of detail I hadn't seen before. Also no problems with the picture image. No banding. Just 100% pure playback. It did put into perspective how poor video processors are and so glad I invested in a new AV lead for the Sony. Comparing this Sony to my old plasma was a no brainer. The Sony OLED wins hands down with a level of control across all areas in both picture and sound. I was using an X9 in that playback. Again my X9 handles picture and sound superbly but discs are still noisy at the beginning. So it's a myth that the X9 is soundless. My discs are well stored and looked after so no warping or any other problems. The beginning of the disc is usually noisy and it dies down after about 5 minutes. I have two copies that Enya disc and both play the same. For some reason CAV discs tend to be more noisy on playback than CLV. The sound on these discs is amazing played back through a soundbar.
Simply put i'll be enjoying my laserdiscs for years to come..........
Off course a brand new 21st century player from Pioneer would be nice but that's not going to happen..... Shame as there is plenty of life in the format yet.

Keep telling people current TVs way surpassed almost all of those now obsolete video processors but see many people blow hundreds on them anyway. Expecially those old Faroudja, DVDO and no name boxes are literally door stops now. Unless you have the funds and fortune to find a working Crystalio II or Lumagen Radiance 2144, there is no reason for video processors. They actually degrade video, they are antiquated technology.

indeed. remember the high-end home theater halcyon days of the late-90's,
when well-heeled empty-nesters were blowing like $20k or more on line-doublers and all that somesuch?

People really hated scan lines back then.

Out of curiosity is there modern technology that allows playback of non HDMI devices without degrading the picture.....

The reason I ask is I was horrified how much the DEVO Edge degraded the picture on comparing it to direct AV input to the TV.
