Most recent watches:

Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back (Testing my Definitive Collection Laserdisc. Sadly it's the early pressing version which is missing a few seconds of the scene where Leia is welding on the Millennium Falcon.)
It's Such a Beautiful Day (This might be my favourite film, or tied for favourite. A real emotional kick in the teeth; don't watch it on a bad day.)
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (Finishing my first watch of the original Indiana Jones trilogy. I liked Raiders and Crusade, hated Temple.)

I just wasn't feeling like my copy was performing well, so having several (doesn't everyone by now?) I tried a couple others. Is this movie just not well lit? :problem:

Which LD version as there were a few releases.

I have 5 of these: LV 33118-2WS
I tried 3, they all looked about the same.
Not a title that has a rot issue reported, so probably just the way it is. Never saw it outside the theater on any other media so nothing to compare to.

Watched I am Mother on Netflix. I really liked it. I generally like these minimalist sci fi films. It is slow, nearly no action and the story is very simple (perhaps stupid too) so it’s not a film for everyone. If you liked Duncan Jones’ Moon, you will probably like this one too.

Saw that and it was enjoyable but for me just once was enough. it's not something I absolute would love. Hilary Swank is a babe in that.

Finally got my eyes on City Hunter : Shinjuku Private Eyes.
I was lucky enough to have a theater (the only one) in my town showing it in original version with subs (only one screening on Thursday) so I jumped on the occasion, and boy, was it worth the wait !
Let's be honest, the movie is quite far from perfect but it was a real pleasure all along, the sound and picture were great, at every music or character appearance, we were all cheering like fanboys, it probably was the best time I ever had in a theater.
So if you have the occasion (and like City Hunter, but seriously, who doesn't ?) go see it !

is this connected to the old anime from the 80s or is just a new take?

Been home sick the last two weekends. Howard the Duck, I Love Lucy and War documentaries on DVD. Picked up Once Upon a Time in America on LD at the hi fi store repairing my amp yesterday. Never seen it, wanted to watch it for a long time, have seen all of Leone's westerns. Was up through all 4 CLV sides last night until 1AM, great movie. Will rewatch many times I think to figure out all the nuances and plot points. This is non linear storytelling done in a non pretentious way. Although the telephone scene at the beginning is a bit try hard. I got a Sade LD at the hifi store too which was really nice.

Well it's kinda both, I mean it's all the original characters but moved into our era as if they never aged and were already living in 2019.

Godzilla (1984) on Jap LD. Got this in so I could start on my heisei era box sets properly. Pretty good flick, although I believe Biolante, as I remember it from the 90s is a step up..

I remember the Super X making an appearance in Biolante? It went down hard in G1984, wonder if it's a new ship and crew..?

The Prisoner..... love that series.

There are a few episodes that really stretched things but overall a great series & the back stories on the series in general & some episodes is as interesting as the series, worth checking if you enjoy it & have the time.

Enjoy  .

Cheers

Great quality. Good colors.

Charlton Heston and Yul Brynner are terrific !

I do not know whether it is actually allowed to post this here but I watched Blade Runner in 4K ( 4K UHD Disc release ) on my new Benq 4K projector last night and the quality was just breathtaking. Despite the fact that I have probably seen this film at least a dozen times in my life, this time it was far more enjoyable than the previous times. The new 4K release is absolutely superb. I have never seen this film with such clarity. What I really loved was how I was able to read all the writing in the background that appeared blurry on the Blu Ray release before. Every object on the screen was sharp. Even the logo at the beginning of the film and the text before the film starts are super sharp. You have the feeling you can look into the windows of the Tyrell Corporation building. It is unbelievable. I have to say that I was sceptical about this entire 4K thing reading that the only new advantage was HDR accompanying these 4K releases and that people couldn't "see 4K". Well, maybe not on a 50 inch TV sitting 2-3 metres away from it but on a big projected screen the difference is like day and night. I do not need 4K for most films but for some masterpieces such as 2001 or Blade Runner it is a must in my view. This was one fine experience last night.

Never liked Fightclub and the strange ending. It is well made and I love Brad Pitt and some of Fincher's flicks but I am simply not loving Fightclub.

Not a fan of fightclub either, I hate Norton, he's a little b**chy looking dude, Pitt's shirts are one of the worst fashion trends of the 90s too. I didn't get the story. All my friends had a hard on for the movie in the day.

I prefer the LASERdisc. It's so pure, it hurts.

I read you guys about Fight Club.

It is a modern take on how pathetic society has become.
One needs to view it by taking a step back and watching in the third person......

Norton is tough to love however it took alot of Moxie to take this script......
Really liked his role as the leper king in Kingdom of Heaven.

Anyway, a very obscure title on LaserDisc. Fight Club is one for my shelves......

Cheers mates.....
Time to get the paints and brushes out !

I watched Heat recently. It was better than expected. Might have to grab the LD at some point just because.
