I didn't know that there was such a thing as a "primary backup" its either Primary or Backup right? My primary player is a nice working player, my backup player is a different nice working player takeshi666 wrote: Didn't know Quasar made LD players. I wonder what they're clones of? Pioneers but I think later like the 50x line?

This Quasar unit is a clone of the Panasonic, LX-101 (in fact, all Quasars are Panasonic clones as they are the same company). Pretty good model overall in respect to build quality. Kind of regret selling one awhile back as it was a good work horse.

Personally speaking you don't have to designate a machine as being a primary, secondary, etc.... back-up.
The best thing you can do is rotate the players around as to not overwork any one machine. This will ensure your players an extended life or even prevent a pre-mature death (e.g.: storing players for extended periods can be bad as well).
But going back the quality of the machines you have, consider this....
The CLD-M90 is probably the worst in respect to picture quality as I personally find that it has the most noise. Regardless, I still value my unit for only one reason; it's unique in being a five disc CD changer. A very cool machine to show off a sophisticated piece of engineering.
The CLD-D606 and the DVL-700 could very well be the most fragile of your machines as both utilize the laser pick-up assembles that have the motor holder designs that can break over time for simply no reason or from rough handling. Just make sure to not over work these units. Also, for the DVL-700, the DVD laser pick-up can also fail earlier than the LD/CD laser pick-up (at least from what I hear from other forum posters).
The CLD-97 is definitely your most high end player and as such is the most heavy duty as well. You can probably treat this baby like a dog and it will keep running. However, you still don't want to overwork it as you don't want a particular part to fail that will be difficult to obtain (probably should look for junk players like a CLD-2080 and CLD-3080 for future spare parts).
The LD500, as I said before, is a low cost but very robust built machine. Always loved its sister the LX-101. For an entry level player, I felt it was better in some cases than many of the Pioneer equivalents such as the CLD-1070 to the CLD-1090. Also, if I had to run a player to death and not have any concern about it breaking down, it would be this machine since it's an entry level deck (e.g.: no digital field memory, auto reverse, and digital outputs) and not worth as much. If it breaks and it's a part that is hard to obtain (there are far fewer spare parts for Panasonic made machines since there are fewer of them), you simply chuck it.
Now in respect to an earlier post you had, it appeared you had (or still have) a CLD-D704 that was having an issue w/ a grip ring. If you still have the player, that would be a simple issue to fix. I think one of our forum members are now selling new grips rings. Also, you can also try to clean the ring with alcohol (I personally used "Intraclean" as it won't dry the rubber) and it could resolve those issues on a temporary basis.
