The best guess I can make without knowing the internal workings of the player is that if it uses a separate circuit for PAL discs, that circuit has been damaged in some way. We have a service manual here: https://manuals.lddb.com/LD_Players/Pio ... /CLD-D515/ but hell if I understand any of that.

Unfortunately the Service Manual linked to above just seems to be an 'AC3 board' supplement to the full manual. Looks like P5 is a "Spindle error - Setup, rotation start" (see here: https://forum.lddb.com/viewtopic.php?p=25865#p25865) which might point to a motor problem, although odd that it doesn't also affect NTSC discs. Out of interest, have you tried a lighter-weight PAL disc - eg a 20cm or 12cm CDV disc? How many PAL discs have you tried... if you only have two or three, it might be that they're all past their best...

A CD spins slower towards the end of the disc, just like a CLV disc does.

That is a very good point, if the discs are PDO pressed & early ones in particular they may not be readable by the player. Never heard of that issue & the few 515s that passed through my hands were all good bar one that had been messed with. Hope the player turns out to be fine. Cheers

There may be a separate adjustment for “PAL sync” or something. A 60hz pot and a 50hz pot or something like that. The player may be just slightly too out of range to play a PAL disc. Usually if you get a spindle code on an NTSC player it’s because it can’t get the big disc up to speed but PAL discs spin slower and it plays NTSC so we know that’s not it exactly. Adjustment may save this but I wouldn’t adjust anything unless you know what it does.

Is the OP sure that this issue affects all PAL discs, or just some particular PAL discs? There is another thread on this subject: https://forum.lddb.com/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=7402 In that case, the disc was spinning up far too fast before the P5 code was generated.

Hi heed1969, a few people have asked as above, have you tried other PAL discs if you have any or have you solved the problem? Cheers
