Several players I have opened with these white plastic pickup gear rails have had a crack in them. The pickup can still traverse all the way to the front and back, but severe bending usually occurs as it traverses the broken part. I've attempted to repair one with adhesive, but it is difficult to get it perfect. I ended up just undoing it.

I've seen it on a 980, 1070, and a V2400. Fortunately this part does not appear to be used in any CLD-S series (from what I've seen at least) or the earlier players.

Has anyone else noticed this? Or am I just getting players that have been handled roughly?

Rather than gluing it at the broken part, have you tried constructing an additional support beam like the one next to it and gluing that on instead?

You could also just get an entire block of material to go across inside that section, this way you have 3 points of glue.
Back sides and bottom.
Also try to rough up that plastic a little as its waxy and always hard to glue.

Every single one of these I have seen with this design are all cracked in the exact same place. This rail is also used in the CLD-M series players. I've got to wonder if it's supposed to be this way for stress relief.

If you get a lot of movement, it may be the pickup is binding along the rail. Try clearing off all the old lubricant and replacing it with new.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I'm now wondering if this is a flaw or not as well.
