I tried this once before and it worked out, so why not do it again? XP

There's only one Laserdisc left I'm absolutely dying to have right now that I cannot find and that is Yu-Gi-Oh! The Movie (1999) [LSTD01554] from Toei Video. And seeing how NAS quickly took over Yu-Gi-Oh!, I imagine that these were made in very limited quantities, more so than your average Laserdisc, I mean.

I'd even go so far as to borrow someone else's copy and return it, I'd just like to see it for myself.

If anyone would sell or lend me this disc, please PM me or reply to this thread, it would mean a lot.

Thank you.

I don't have one.
Have you checked YJ, I'm sure there is a copy floating around there.

You must have tens of thousands of LDs.

Or maybe s/he just has a very narrow field of interests. I mean, my "must have" list is only maybe a dozen titles long.

I check there and Mercari on the regular. Bupkis.

I'm lucky to find the VHS, which I already have, by the way. :/

Nothing on eBay right now but I'd check there regularly too if you aren't already.

That would assume he has horrible taste and I would never assume that about someone. I’m sure his library is amazing. This is probably just the last Toei thing he doesn’t have or something like that.

If he'd said the Pokemon movie, would that change your tune?

This thread isn't improving. I'm not sure if it's actually degenerating as I'm not a full blown weeb.

Are you insinuating that Pokemon is his only other LD? How rude! He’s done nothing to betray that level of poor taste. I’m sure he’s heard of something that wasn’t created by a billion dollar steering committee.

You're right, I suppose a full-blown weeb would just pay through the nose for the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure laserdiscs. I mean, they didn't even adapt the whole story!

I don’t get the weeb thing. I don’t know what it means and I don’t care.

Don’t people rag on each other’s bad taste anymore? I remember it being a major pastime in the con hotel lobbies, maybe the most entertaining of all. I guess the whole safe space thing may have killed that off.

I think it's more the fact that the face of the fandom has changed. Whatever people call themselves "anime fans" only watch whatever flavor of the month moe harem isekai garbage is the hot property right now. Either that or Dragonball Z or some other shounen that had the grace of actually being shown on Toonami back in the day. Instead, it's people like us who unironically enjoy obscure 70's giant robot anime who get made fun of.

That’s nuts. I remember getting into what were basically “obscure-offs” with people in the 90s, and having tapes of rare anime was like a free pass to coolness.

:?

But there is definitely a reason I don't go to any anime specific forums. On here and another forum I go to it's all grumpy middle aged/older guys like myself. We are all jaded, like old s**t and dislike many things about modern anime while being interested in maybe a couple new series each year. In fact on this other forum I recently posted a screenshot from the bar in one of the grumpy old men movies to describe us.

I can't even figure what is going on with newer anime, and when I do watch it its so bubblegum I can't stand it.
Its just all made for Otaku's anyway, back in the day they made anime for people not fanboys, but fanboys took it over.

Was searching up GE999 last night and it made me want to watch the series I own on LD again, all 113 episodes.
Boy that's an amazing series.

It being a pretty international place helps too. Americans pretty much ruined anime, really. They got so into it that the US became the biggest market and...then we got a say on in how it was made and...that’s not good. Especially since Americans are so cheap/poor. People who won’t pay $40 for a Blu-ray and won’t pay any money at all for music are somehow the target audience. There’s for sure a difference between anime made in the old days and the stuff made now that they know they are being watched.

That being said, good new anime comes out a lot. It’s just work to find it and it’s probably for TV and therefore a trillion padded cheap episodes. Also the number of high school settings is just insane. It’s as bad as the cop/doctor thing with American TV.

The Gundam being produced lately is very good. I wasn’t expecting to like Gundam Narrative as much as I did. I think I may actually be a little younger than the target audience for that though and I was born in 73...
