My grandma (RIP) learned how to do VHS and that was it for her. DVD and BD came out, she had no interest. She had every movie she wanted on tape anyway. The memories are flooding back now, watching Bogart, films like Ben Hur, Lawrence of Arabia, John Ford westerns as a young boy.

My grandpa was my favorite person in the history of the world. He didn’t care about a lot of the stuff I did but then I didn’t survive the Depression as a child in Chicago by looking for money on the ground. I didn’t get drafted and shipped to New Guinea, I didn’t get malaria. My first son lived. Old people don’t care about a lot of stuff because it takes until you’re old to figure out what your priorities really are, if you ever do.

Well then,
Based on benmbe and forpers assessments, and the fact that he is obviously getting around in his video.........
Maybe Andy is just being, well .... Andy !

I only PM'd him through the forum here a bit, besides commenting on threads of his or such.

Feared the worse, and now hope for the best for him and his cats.

My grandfather stopped talking to me after I went to study in Japan. He fought the Japanese in the Bouganville campaign. He grew up in the poorest part of Melbourne in the depression. Got work in a factory but he joined the Army in the early '30s and trained to be an engineering officer. He carried an Owen gun and kept our tanks moving in the front line. After the war he worked at a fabrication plant on a Navy base as a civilian. His brother was captured and spent years in Changhi prison where thousands of allied soldiers were starved to death or executed. Came back a walking skeleton and never talked about it.

After the war he liked the Americans but not the British.

I'd also break out laughing at the dinner table with him. He had a messed up jaw or something and couldn't chew without making a lot of noise. I just thought it was the funniest thing ever for some reason.

Yeah so for 10 years before he died at 90 years old we didn't say a word to each other, he'd shift his attention to my cousins every time I went up to talk to him at family gatherings. I don't miss him.

My Dad had a totally different life to that and a totally different life to me. He explains to me that all his life he's had cars and it's amazing that "my generation" doesn't need cars. I'm like, no, every one of my peers has always run cars, it's not my generation ("Generation X") it's just me, I spend my money on other stuff. I can't afford a car and the other stuff I want as well. He doesn't seem to get that I earn a much lower income than my peers and having a single low income in this world means you can't do much.

That brings me back to Laserbite. He has money for a home, two cats (probably not renting) and an incredible rack of gear. He seems to have time to make videos and use his gear. I'll tell you what, working in a cinema as a projectionist won't get you that life today! He has a good life!!! 8-)

Clearly the chap needs help of that there is no doubt.

If he wants "help" there are resources available but if he does not want or ask for it not much can be done.

Rather sad if there is no-one around him to perhaps see what is happening & able to offer some support, no family or friends?

I do hope he gets some support or help soon.

Best regards to all.

John

Maybe you need help, spending your time on an internet forum worrying and pontificating so much about someone you've never met or talked to.

Sorry?

Please clarify.

My grandfather served in a ammo support company in the European theatre during WWII.
He said they lost about 40 of the 180 men in his company.

He punched a Sgt who was over KP because the cook threw a cleaver at a cat that slept with my grandfather for several weeks. The poor cat lost a hind leg from the incident and died shortly afterward.
He was demoted to pvt as punishment

He was in a foxhole when his intuition told him to move to another one. A few minutes later an artillery round landed right at his previous position. I would not be typing this had he stuck where he was.

He was off loading train cars during an air raid in France, when he swears someone or something pushed him causing him to lie prone as the rail car behind the one he was off loading exploded. He said he would not have survived if he had been upright.

Enjoyed reading about other members grandfather's so thought to share a bit.

The generation of U.S. WWII and Korean soldiers defined an era.

The word soldier in any language commands respect and instills fear.
For very obvious reasons.

Good stories Firehorse. I wish my grandfather had talked in more detail about his service.

Thanks for sharing.

My gramps was in WWII as well. At DDay. I never got to know him that well. All my pictures with him are from when I was quite young. He has been dead for awhile.

The Korean war is oft forgotten by many. I am friends with a 90 year old Korean war vet and he has some stories that's for sure.

I gotta mention one more story from gramps.

After V day, there were so many troops to return to the states, he had to wait 4 months for passage from Normandy.
He got home and went to collect his pay after discharge and found the whole 4 months were not "paid".

True to character, Jay Winslow did not make an issue about being shorted from Uncle Sam.
He chuckled about it though till his dying days.....

He maintained that young people had no idea how "good" they had it during peacetime compared to the war years rationing period.

He was invited to Washington D.C. several times for WWII remembrances.
Attended a few times, however passed after venerable age crept in.

RIP Jay.... so glad to know you sir and proud to be your oldest grandson....

laserbite34 has been trying to serial create bogus account and post sex toys pics on the forum again.

All cleaned up so far.

The only news since his last burst of madness was that he was insulting me in his usernames and email addresses.

Now he's insulting Jesus.

Go figure.

I still believe he has mental issues and should seek medical help.

Could someone file a police report in the UK on my behalf?

Julien

I was browsing the forums at work when it happened, hoping whatever spyware they got on the thing didn't notice the dildo plastered on my screen for a few seconds.

Sorta the same here at my end.

My wife was sitting beside me when I was on earlier today & happened to glance over as one of the images popped up, not an issue as such but not what you want appearing while on a laserdisc site.

Rather sad.

Got to feel for Julien who is left to remove the puerility so often now.

weird I don't get any images luckily but then I guess that would lead to a good reason, while being on the phone, is you don't get obnoxious pictures or something?

See the snapping of the Jake,
I think he's angry at the johnny cake.

He finds it hard to see the fish,
Overshadowed by the smooth wish.

Who is that squeaking near the cheese?
I think she'd like to eat the cantonese.

She is but a pale Media,
Admired as she sits upon an expedia.

Her kind car is just a biscuit,
It needs no gas, it runs on brisket.

She's not alone she brings a cigar,
a pet Puma, and lots of railcar.

The Puma likes to chase a zombie,
Especially one that's in the thrombi.

The Jake shudders at the lying chalk
He want to leave but she wants the bokeh.

You're welcome
