So after more than a year of using a small LCD for watching my LDs, I finally decided to upgrade to a CRT TV (yes, I know it's funny said like that), so basically, I was tired of waiting to have enough money to buy a new tv, I also couldn't be able to find a good enough one for my purpose. So I gave up and hooked up the 22" CRT TV that my brother stored in his room to try it out, and well, I'm totally conquered by it. I mean the picture quality is not far from excellent for Laserdisc, even with my player (D925) that is not calibrated with some really noticeable crosstalk on the LCD, now looks almost flawless on this CRT. The colors looks more vibrant, the contrast is really deep (shadows aren't full darkness now), the picture noise is less noticeable and there is no more " aliasing" due to the low resolution of LD. There are also movies that I found almost unwatchable on my lcd that now looks gorgeous on my " new" CRT. for example, this Toy Story disc was literally unwatchable, colors were blending into each others and were way too saturated, there was some heavy noise and other artifacts etc... And now, it looks even better than the DVD I have of the movie (and sound better, so it's a win win). Well, to wrap this up, I say just go CRT for your Laserdiscs, they are cheap and there is no need to loose all your money on fancy upscalers that cost a month salary and what not.

What's funny about it? I believe I'm getting an experience comparable to a guy with an X9, lumagen and OLED with mid range players on my CRT. My (relatively cheap) scaler is still necessary to tweak aspect ratios.

What you’re experiencing is something I’ve tried to explain to a million people over the Internet. It’s very hard to communicate that before people try spend money on fixing problems introduced by 21st century stuff, maybe first try matching the display to the tech it was designed to run on it. Almost ANY CRT will be better than a cheap LCD for SD viewing. Before buying a $1000 Bravia try a $20 Trinitron.
To experience an even more massive version of this effect trying watching a really nice black and white movie on your new CRT. I made a post similar to this effect on another forum recently. I didn't think to mention the use tech items with other tech items of the same era. That's a really good point. But I sure did mention that CRTs are cheap and might even look better than if you spend thousands on other gear. I broke form in this thread by not just posting yes again. Damn it.

Well, I already went to sea if any people had HD crts to sell (or give) but there is absolutely none in my area, and a single one in all of France, I searched on ebay, leboncoin (french craiglist) and some others, and I came to wonder, where they even officially released in France ? I can't even find any info on that... Although I came across some 16/9 sets, so If I ever feel the courage to get one (you know, weight+size, so it will be difficult to bring into my place) I could for around 20€, but I'm cool with the one I have for now.

What have you been watching LD on? I have hooked up the D750 to the Trinitron (spare room) and my led/theatre setup (lounge) but I haven't watched everything in my collection completely. Good weather is settling in so I've got some sorting out to do (I think I mentioned that to you), getting rid of some stuff and I'll probably be reorganising too. Need to run some tests via a couple of recorders I have to see if I can get an improved LD picture on my led, probably also see if some old game consoles are ok via that way too. I do like the crt but it uses so much power and it isn't in my main room. It's kinda taking up too much space now. If I ever come across a smaller unit I'll replace it. Probably just stick it in the garage though, I still have some room out there

Not as minimal as if I had a modern set but the difference saved isn't significant even with our ridiculous Australian power prices.
