If you like old mecha there is a lot of good stuff here. I already have Patlabor (only $25 wtf) so I bought: Votoms (all three sets), Xabungle, Ideon and Glass Mask (only non-mecha in my order) for just $55 shipped.

I bought the $25 Patlabor even though I have most of it already and Royal Space Force in yet another format even though I suspect there’s probably something jacked about it. The prices were just too low.

Patlabor mega set, Votoms TV and Ideon have now all sold out. Not too surprising.

Damn. wish i would have known about that PATLABOR set. been looking for an excuse to get the whole combined franchise for years now,
and this would have been as ideal an opportunity as it gets...

2100 minutes for $25? Yeah, the same thing originally cost well over a grand on LD. It will likely never get better or higher quality. I don’t know why they’d ever reprint it to sell it this cheap.

The box itself is typical US release trash of course. No inserts at all. Art reused indiscriminately on discs crammed as tightly into cases as they will go. I only have some Patlabor on LD and I’d say the chances of me getting more haven’t really gone up or down now that I have the BR. It’s great to loan out or play at parties but I still want the art from the LDs...on paper, not super saturated circular cutout versions of the art.

I was happy with it at $80 or w/e it was it pre-ordered at. Agree that the slip box is absolute crap. As for the case I have worse, mostly anime but terrible packaging for life action stuff as well. I think it's middle of the road.

I thought about buying another at $25 just cause or possibly as a gift but ended up not doing it.

Yeah, while I do have a BR player I hate how hard it is to find with LR audio outs for connection to my 2 channel amp.

And really don't want to invest into BR even if SD but great anime. Would rather pickup the DVDs if available of said title.

When your DVD player breaks buy a BR player. In the meanwhile buy BRs that look good.

Your TV, does it have analog outs? That’s a good way to break analog audio out of HDMI. My BR deck is very old so it has analog outs and even composite video. :)

It may but my projectors doesn't have any audio so I'm SOL.
Unless I pickup an Oppo the other cheaper alternatives are hard to find.

There are also HDMI break-out things on eBay that probably work.

My PS3 can output analog or digital stereo 2.0 from a standard PlayStation AV cable or TOSLINK while playing just the video from HDMI. It’s a second gen model.

This - unless it's actually in HD, the format just gets in the way because of region code BS.

I was so happy when they started licensing all these oldschool titles I never thought would see an official english-language release, only for them to f*** me over with that sh!t. I don't care about the AVC encoding, just gimme something I can actually f***ing play!

I have tried some of the devices but no go.
Then I found this cheapie BR player and its great but needs a loading belt now.
I have 1 BR now that I'm trying to sell and no others and want to keep it that way.

After all the stuff that's happened with my life in the past 2 years I'm going to be the curmudgeon and stick with the formats I own,
the rest can f--k off.

I don’t get it. I don’t even see it as “another format” at all. Deep down it is, obviously, but in daily use? It’s just a DVD that doesn’t suck. Think of it as being like Superbit or DTS or something that’s there and you don’t have to care or even know.

I’m totally with you about not wanting to get shafted by the man and all that but I think your OCD is just fogging your vision, making you think WAY too much about this. It’s not like VHS versus Beta or HDDVD vs BR. You can’t even tell DVD and BR apart by touch. The players are the same way. It’s fully backward compatible. It’s...pretty much the same thing except it looks way way way better. When I started buying BR I was watching them on a SD 27” CRT and extremely happy. Dumb grandmas and stuff don’t even know there IS a difference. You put both movies in the same player.

Regions are annoying too but...as an American I find being in the same region as Japan virtually eliminates this problem. I import very little from Europe except concert videos and these are usually region free.

Region was WAY more of a problem for me with DVD. It basically kept me from buying it. I did as much as I cold to transition from LD to BR. I still have many DVDs of course since they’re everywhere and cheap but I was never enthusiastic about it.

For me its the money, I just can't be like laserbite having multiple titles and tossing these films into the cat bin, I'll live with what I have and focus that money into
proper investing or fixing my old house.

I'm just more contempt with what I have or can get cheap enough to enjoy and will live with it.

Direct link to new Sentai sale: https://www.sentaifilmworks.com/collect ... b3cb0e1382

I had like $360 in my cart initially. Pared down to $138 by the time I ordered. Would have bought it all but I just bought a large game lot. Couldn't resist Dunbine and When They Cry sets at $20 each this time.

I'm kicking myself for waiting to long to getting around to order during the pre-Black Friday sale this topic was about, as Xabungle and bSpace Runaway Ideon both sold out before I got around to ordering, and are now OOP. Only Amazon still has those two tiles remaining in-stock, but for nowhere near as good a prices as both RightStuf and SentaiFilmworks blew them out at. The three Armored Trooper Votoms Blu-Ray sets (TV Series, OVA Collection 1, OVA Collection 2) have also gone OOP, but there's a rumor they will be re-releasing them as a unified complete franchise set sometime next year. Did at least manage to order OVA Collection 1, have all but the first chapter of the TV series on DVDs, so wasn't a big deal to me missing out on the TV series.

As for Patlabor: Ultimate Box Set getting cleared out for so incredibly cheap, word is that Maiden Japan's license of the series & movies expires in January. The DVD and Blu-Ray releases are on blowout presently through RightStuf as I type this, with very little remaining. But if you do a search for Patlabor, you'll find that RightStuf still has the Pioneer Geneon DVD releases of Patlabor Movie 3: WXIII still in inventory from 11 years back!

Will also point out that Maiden Japan label releases tend to mostly get low quantity production runs, with very rare exceptions on well known titles, like Patlabor and Vampire Princess Miyu. If you're curious about what all has been released thus far under the Maiden Japan label, there are printable PDF collector checklists of all their releases to date on both DVD and Blu-Ray formats available here:

Can relate, ended up spending $123.79 on the Sentai black Friday sale. So many great deals, so little money to splurge. Then ended up spending another $62 on the RightStuf Cyber Monday sale.
