My favorite is Drunken Master II (that bar fight!) but I’m a huge fan of Jackie Chan in general. He’s one the greatest filmmakers of all time, IMHO. He doesn’t always do everything himself but at one point or another he has. The music, the stunts, the editing, directing, writing, training his stunt men, running the business. He’s used these skills to make some terrible movies but also some of my absolute favorite ever.

That is definitely a great fight. My favorite Jackie fight of all time tho is the final fight with the Master at the end of the first Drunken Master. Goes on so long. I used to see Jackie Chan walking around my town sometimes, you could spot him easily coz he was definitely the only dude wearing a white suit, he'd visit his parents that lived here, and he did too for a while, before he was famous he helped build some houses around here, he got the name Jackie from people here, coz they couldn't pronounce his Chinese name. I never asked for an autograph when I saw him tho coz I thought it was uncool to do so.

Eastern Condors is so good. Perfect '80s military action HK style.

It's one of those movies I don't really think of as Jackie movies though. Condors is all Sammo and to me Winners and Sinners is the best Hong Kong series ever released, and only features cameos by Jackie. I guess I'm more of a Sammo fan. Love Pom Pom movies too which tie into W&S. John Shum is so awesome. His Rambo impression in Pom Pom Strikes Back is about the funniest s**t I've ever seen. I believe his character in the movie has a laserdisc collection? Need to rewatch soon. I have PPSB on HK LD. All these action comedy movies from this era usually feature a connection to Japan too which fascinates me, seeing places I've been to but in the '80s..

Grew up in Australia in the '90s watching all these movies subtitled on SBS TV, we were lucky then, it was a good time. That's not just nostalgia, American kids never got easy access at that time so easily to subbed versions of this great stuff. America had everything else, we had SBS TV.

just sat through ROUJIN-Z (1991) found it at a thrift about a decade ago,
along with several other of the usual HOLLYWOOD VIDEO rental-chain-stocked,
STREAMLINE PICTURES Anime VHS suspects of the 1990's,
such as AKIRA, GOLGO 13; THE PROFESSIONAL and ROBOTECH II; THE SENTINELS.

it was alright, i guess. i understood the message they were driving at and all,
but it sure as hell went fully off of the rails from the halfway point onward.

at any rate, great end credits song (Mishio Ogawa - Hashire Jitensha) i had to source myself a copy, even...

Is Drunken Master 2 the one where he fights the really tall guy at the end with the mad foot work? Then Jackie falls in the pit of hot coals? That fight scene from memory was probably the best I've ever seen.

Decided to do a complete 180° last night and watch Congo. Never seen it before. Let me tell you I was thoroughly entertained. The best parts were Ernie Hudsons and Tim Currys performances. The acting overall was certainly entertaining enough to keep me engaged. Tim curry gets so goofy by the end, it's a joy to behold. Bruce Campbell was a nice touch at the beginning.

I never thought the Amy gorilla looked too fake that it took me out the movie. I thought it was quite convincing. All the effects were pretty good. Especially at the end when the erupting volcano was destroying the land. The best bit was at the end when all the apes jump into the lava voluntarily! They know their fate and they dont care!

This being a Michel Crichton adaptation it was said to be the next Jurrassic park and boy does it fall short of that. What a tall order. How can you top jurrassic park with a talking gorilla? If you can conpletely separate the two in your mind then you might enjoy Congo.

Yeah, that’s the finale fight...the third best fight in that movie, that’s how great it is.

It’s nice to see him do so much straight-ish fighting with no motorcycles or busses getting in the way. I like that stuff of course but there are only so many period JC movies from his best era.

I really like the fight that goes under the train near the beginning and the bar fight where they use the huge poles and almost destroy the building. So many great stunts.

Gate of Hell

Underrated Japanese period drama. Tough watch, I immediately rewatched the last 9 minutes.

Bruce Lee and his son Brandon were Titans.
So much to learn from their philosophy, wisdom, and martial arts mastery......

Read Tao of Jeet Kune Do.......

Bruce was laid up with a back injury for six months and wrote his book.

Wish they both were not taken before they could gift the world with more of their ability to teach the artless arts....

Cheers

Game of Death & Game of Death 2 are pretty vile for a number of reasons. Using footage from the mans funeral in Game of Death was pretty warped or is that just me?

Among a quite a number of so called Bruceploitation movies that really were pretty sick. "Bruce Fights Back From Beyond The Grave" - "Bruce Is Back" - "The Master Returns" - "Bruce Is Back To Right The Wrongs" were among many taglines used on a number of films.

Watch them if you must but don't pay to do it. You really have not missed anything if you have not seen them.

Cheers

Oh yeah, and they do it again in Game of Death 2 - right after killing off his "character", in a display of even less taste than in the original!

I still recommend it entirely because of it's "so bad it's good" value - which doesn't extend to the fight scenes, which are genuinely well made, and the film has some surprisingly talented people behind it, like Hwang Jang-lee, Ng See-yuen and Yuen Woo-ping. The guy who plays Bruce Lee's body double for the first 40 minutes or so takes over as a completely different character for the rest of the film's runtime. I particularly recommend getting your hands on the international version since it includes the unused greenhouse fight scene from Game of Death, along with a truly baffling montage of really early footage of the actual Bruce Lee, which is presented as being footage from the childhood of his character...except the captions still identify him by his real name!

It's also one of the few movies - if not the only one - I actually prefer watching dubbed. Interestingly, only dubbed version calls it "Game of Death 2". The Chinese version is titled "Tower of Death" and does not use the name of Bruce Lee's character from the Robert Clouse film. You can tell it's directed by someone who worked on early Jackie Chan films from some of the more comical elements, like the protagonist putting his sunglasses on his opponent mid-fight.

200 Cigarettes.

Blasted by the critics upon release, back in the day.
I guess you'd have to be of a certain disposition (or a certain inebriation :P ) to fully enjoy it. It felt somewhat disjointed, IMO, but still a fun watch.

Viewed "After Earth" with Will and Jayden Smith.

Gotta relay, original story, well written. Epic acting by father and son.
What a cool production to experience for the two of them.

Great sci-fi is hard to come by......

Check it out !

The Avengers (1998)

Hadn't previously seen this one. What you have here is such a grab bag of randomness that it ends up being completely incoherent. I mean the style is cool, it's visually engaging, and all that. And it should have been a lot more fun seeing Sean Connery playing what could have been a fun send up of James Bond villains, but overall this thing is a mess.

Oh I was thinking the marvel avengers, can't remember much of that one either as I had a bottle with me at the theater at the time.
Would take bathroom brakes and fill the soda cup up with some whisky or rum, it was a while ago.

Now I would have been taking the TP and wrapping it around my body to sneak it out

Warners made some pretty bad mistakes with this one. After a test screening which was not done in an appropriate location it was mercilessly hacked to bits.

Below is from the IMDb site & may help explain why it turned out as it finally did.

The original cut of the film ran around 115m., according to advance reviews. Many of the scenes cut include:
The original opening sequence featured the "Evil Emma" infiltrating a secret base, the Prospero Project. She drives up to the base in a blue Jaguar on a secluded London highway, and enters through a red phone booth by uttering the words "how now brown cow? After gaining access to the base, she proceeds to kill several of the scientists and security personnel, and destroys the base by blowing it up.
The scene of Sir August De Wynter playing organ was originally shown after the opening. As the base blows up, he exclaims "let our revels begin!"
When Emma Peel enters the Gentlemen's club, the attendant who insists that she not enter because she is a woman continues to prevent her from entering, and which point she Karate chops him, which sends him flying down a flight of stairs.
A scene of Sir August De Wynter, dressed in the teddy-bear suit, rhythmically slicing the face of a scientist to classical music while trying to figure out the clues to the Prospero Project.
The first meeting between Emma Peel and John Steed was originally longer. You can see her walking through the corridors before she finally makes her way into the sauna. The dialogue is longer, more frank, and it isn't dubbed, as it is in the theatrical release.
A more coherent explanation of why Emma's Jag exploded after the mechanical bee attack.
Emma Peel drops from De Wynter's arms as she is escorted to his room. He doesn't let go of her, and brings her back up swiftly.
When Sir August De Wynter has Emma Peel in his bed, he lowers the zipper on her shirt just a little more.
More scenes of Peel and Steed walking through the corridors of Wonderland Weather.
Emma Peel bounces back and forth between the walls of her padded cell.
Sir August De Wynter drives to the World Council meeting in a Rolls Royce snowplow after it begins snowing heavily as a result of his weather machine.
More shots of Mother witnessing the worldwide destruction that the weather machine is causing.
More scenes of Peel and Steed walking through De Wynter's headquarters after they lower in through the telephone booth.
An extra shot of Big Ben exploding, shown from slightly farther away.
During the climactic battle between John Steed and Sir August De Wynter, De Wynter slices Steed with his sword several times. De Wynter raises his arms as the battle nears it's end. Steed becomes enraged toward the end of the battle. Note how Steed's shirt is inexplicably cut and bloodied after the fight begins.
After the Prospero Project self-detonates, a countdown clock begins to tick, nearing toward the explosion. When the explosions begins, the silver dome in the headquarters ( the one Steed and Peel pass when they enter) is shown exploding.

Watching right now Alamo, The (1960) (Uncut) [ML-12]
About half way through. If you like these types of films you need this one, really fills in as the uncut version.

And you can't get this on DVD or Bluray as of yet and don't think you can anytime soon due to quality of the source.

We watched: Kingpin (1996) [ML105769]

Had never seen and its really a barrel of laughs we found, good value.
Bit of playing round on the R7G and TV settings and it looked fantastic, bit soft at moments picturewise but a great film to watch
