Hi all,

I recently got a DVL-909 with a faulty PSU and repaired it.

On testing it I have found that LDs and CDs play flawlessly.

With DVD it seems to play OK but I have an issue when I press STOP. When the DVD is in the menu or early chapters the pickup is close to the middle, near the spindle. If I press STOP then the mechanism drops as expected and the pickup gets jammed against a locating lug that comes up through a gap. To get it working again I have to unjam the pickup....

Currently, to get around this, I have to FFWD to a later chapter, press STOP and all seems good.

Has anyone else seen this issue before?

Thanks

Russ

Does this work fine with LDs??

I wouldn't bother using this player for DVD playback ever.
A 40 buck multi region DVD player from your local video store will be better than what is built into the 909.

Or a 60 buck multi region DVD-Bluray player will be better too.

I would also never put anything other than an LD in a 909, especially nowadays.

Back in the early 2000's when it was still my only DVD player (and my only LD player), I once put a cheap anime DVD (probably a bootleg) in it that got completely stuck. Had to open up the player to get it out.

Got an Oppo UDP-203 for BluRay/DVD.

I will have a quick look inside again as it would be nice to have it 100%,
otherwise looks like the 909 will be LD only then

I agree it would be preferred to get it %100 but as others have said no DVD player made in the last decade is as bad as what Pioneer once called “Elite”. Crazy how times change. :)
