I won a CLD-2730K off eBay a few days ago (have yet to pick it up). I have a copy of the 1997 director's cut LD of Lawnmower Man (Lawnmower Man, The: Special Edition (1992) (Uncut) [ID3206LI]). Will I be able to watch it properly (with the proper movie audio), or will I need to wait until I can get a model of player with an AC3 demodulator output?

Thanks. I'm only just getting into this format (due to Coronavirus).

It should play fine.

This appears to be an NTSC player so you just need to make sure your TV is NTSC capable (not sure what Australia’s analog system was based on).

Also, the Lawnmower Man Special Edition doesn’t appear to be AC3 encoded so that is not an issue (and even if it was you just simply play the PCM or analog audio track(s) to watch the movie).

Australia is PAL, but tv's here have been multi region for ages.
I can't remember the last time I saw a new tv that was PAL only. Even a lot of the late crt sets were multi region unlike the equivalent US models (eg my 32" 4:3 Trinitron is multi region). Some of the imported euro crt's weren't multi region though and those would have scart (scart wasn't all that common here).

Just took the player home. Had a bit of a problem with it spitting the disc out, but after a bit of fiddling about it worked. The player has native digital support too, so I can watch Lawnmower Man (and other LDs with digital audio) with the proper movie audio. Thanks.

If the player is sporadically kicking the disc out, you most likely need to replace the loading belt on the unit. You'll need to get a belt size of SCQ 3.6 or order the Pioneer part number of VEB1184.
