The errors are for USA releases. Japanese or European release are not prone do laserrot like their US versions.

That's good news! I'll skip the information about errors for Japanese and European versions and just post if I find any error instead. I hope you don't mind me posting in here though, trying to keep HD DVD alive. : :D

Watched the US releases of Cinderella Man, U-571, Spy Game, and Canadian of Sneakers recently. Only error was on Spy Game, and may have just been a cloudy disc... a wipe down and it played fine the rest of the way.

Not a whole lot of horror/thrillers on HD-DVD unfortunately.

While I don't own any HD DVD's how many do you think you own that aren't playable?
Seems like all you have posted play without any issues from what I've seen of your posts.

I seriously have no idea. Since I live in Sweden atleast half of my HD DVDs are European releases and thus it is unlikely they will be damaged.

The US releases (even Combo discs) I have and have tested so far seems to be working, so I cross my fingers that most of them will be okey.

Van Helsing (2004) (Universal, UK, single-side disc)

If you're into Stephen Summer kind of movies like The Mummy (1999) you might like this, but to me it falls flat. Pretty good CGI though for some parts. However, I'll stick to Underworld (2003) for my Beckinsale vampire movies though.

My score 4/10.

I just finally got around to watching The Mummy on LD (no I never saw it before this.)

So I plan to watch The Mummy Returns on HD-DVD this weekend.

Confirmed: the player won't even detect a playable disc. Could be a round cardboard, it would play the same.

Jeez, and now I tried a few discs, some played some didn't.

Odd thing is, I tried to play a still sealed Top Gun (picked it up off a discount rack at TJ Maxx years ago) and it wouldn't load.

Forgot that I had an already open copy I picked up with a package deal of discs. That one played fine!

Other discs that wouldn't play:

The Departed
300 Combo
300 non-combo
Eastern Promises

At least the Heart: Live in Seattle concert disc I just got plays ok.
