I recently purchased everything a former LD tech owned related to laserdisc. Included was this Philips code test disc. The best part: it is a box that Magnavox shipped on July 29th, 1981.

The disc contains test frames as well as excerpts of what I believe is Sting, The (1973) [11-001].

I am assuming this disc was made to either check or test players with Philips code before it became part of the Laservision standard? Does anyone happen to know more about this?

It's basically the very first test/alignment disk. The "Philips Code" bit means that it has the VBI data used with all LD players other than the PR-7820 (which used MCA Code) - most disks through the 80's had both codes, and only early industrial titles (like 79/80 model year GM disks) had just the MCA code.

Also, any other interesting finds?

(Snide note: GM apparently was so used to poorly made disks that they switched to Technidisc soon after Pioneer US got it's act together.)

Great score! The GGF1067 remote is really hard to find, but at least the codes have been copied off.

Yeah I have been using the Anderic clone that I learned about from the Domesday86 website. Works great, but it is nice to have the real one now that it seems repair and service have become my main hobby. Also included was a "wobbler" 8" GGV disc with a chunk taken out of one side to put the focus servo through its paces.

Did you ever find booklet GRT1028 that came with the Tuning Fork videos?

Can you take a picture of that modified GGV? I've got just enough copies to chance trying that here.

I've been picking up GM discs, and shockingly some of the Technidisc stuff isn't terrible. I do have one where the aluminum has literally disintegrated. Very strange. Still trying to catalog the entire GM library.

I have GGV1012 and GGV1069 which appear to be identical Mint Markings on GGV1069 are GGV1015. Are there any differences between the three you've picked up? What is GGV-129 - it's not here in LDDB?

That is what I am trying to discern, but I won't be able to properly check them out until next week. I was using one of them after I got it just like the other GGVs though (at least 115 and 475 are the same). I'm going to map the appropriate Sony reference frames to the Pioneer ones as well.

GGV-129 is the absurd screwdriver they made for centering and tangential adjustments from the CLD-3070 to the CLD-D702 era.

Not absurd, just a bit eccentric... (ducks)

IIRC the GGV's have some subtle differences, but I don't know what they are - the best way to spot the ones that count are comparing service manuals for players from appropriate eras.

Haha indeed. I tested it out on my beater unit and it sounded like there was a running engine inside.

I don't think I could do that to a GGV disk. I pictured something more like a careful punch, but I don't see how that could work cleanly either.

Me either, so I'm glad he did it. Probably way back when you could get another for cheap. I was thinking you could warp a cheap 8" disc instead? Or maybe glue a weight on the top side, but that might be a dangerous game of "How much weight?".

I've got a discovision disc that has a chip out of it, on only 1 side. That is enough to get the engine whirring up a storm.

Is there any chance we could talk you into making a 3D model file so that they can be 3D printed? I believe this can be done using your cell phone, although I'd have to do some research to figure out exactly how to do it. I think there might also be people who can do it, if you trusted them to return the part to you.

Absolutely. I'll look into how. I think I might need to purchase a digital caliper.
