Hi folks,

Realized a dream of my youth to rekindle the connection with that cool home theatre medium with the big, shiny disks. Got a Pioneer CLD-R7G, then added a Denon AVD-2000, a Denon DVP-602CI, and an eval board.

I dabble with software at work, but like to tinker with electronics. LD is cool and there’s plenty of esoteric stuff you can get into. I mainly have some action and sci-fi movies in my small collection. Movies are displayed on my 4K OLED so LD is looking really soft. I like it though! Gives me a warm and fuzzy 80s-90s nostalgia.

Thanks everyone! It feels good to come out of lurking.

I’ve been toying with napkin sketches of an expandable box based on the AD7842 as an analog video frontend, then outputting component or HDMI. This could be integrated, along with an AC3RF demod option, and then muxing the digital LD audio into HDMI. I then started looking at adding a CC decoder that would overlay subtitles in HD for a nicer look, but this last part is really hard and would require an FPGA. It would be easier to use a comparator and do cc overlay on the analog video, but that will end up with a lower res, pixelated look. I’m no expert in analog video, so I leave these dreams to my tinkering while waiting for an OSSC Pro to use with some older game consoles and easier tinkering.

Välkommen från en annan svensk! / Welcome from another Swede!

I don't collect LD, but I do collect HD DVD, that is the main reason I am here.
