Did you replace the little 1uf startup capacitor on the primary side of the power supply?

I didn’t do that yet because it just came to life last time and worked daily for months.

I will check this area first when I get it open. I’m currently in the middle of building my kid’s Tamiya Lunchbox.

Simple recap should do the trick!
it's a fun job to do + years of comfort ahead this way.
bonus ... it's dead cheap replacing every cap.
I replaced all PS caps in my players.
good luck getting it fixed

I’ve been too busy to investigate this issue. I haven’t been too busy to try to plug the thing in every few days to see if it came back to life...and today it did.

I will plan on a permanent fix the next time I have to unplug it again. :)

This one is a dreaded one I found. For some reason cld-d515, LA-2300 players often have a faulty PS. Most of the time it turns out to be that little cap leaking in the bottom.
Have yet to see a startup cap fail in the cld-d925 :wtf:

So in March my XBR-960 died and I finally got that working again the other day. In the meanwhile however my CLD-99 seems to have quit for good. I know it was working when I played a CD in it in like...November, but now it won't power up again and there is no standby light. Its time to fix it!

I'm confident I can get the power issue fixed but at the moment the issue is access. The thing won't turn on, so getting the drawer out of the way is the first task. Does anyone have any time saving tricks for this before I take apart more than I need to? BTW, when it died a CD was mounted and I'm pretty sure in CD Direct mode. The spindle is currently up. Do take the front off to get to the gears?

You have to remove the top video board on the left and fell underneath it toward the front to find the gear to turn to lower the tray and open the tray. To get the LD tray to open you need to move the laser toward the back just before the arm that comes up thru the mechanical assembly. If the CD tray only opens you have to turn the wheel to get the assembly fully up in play position and then move the laser a little further back and try to lower and open the tray again.

OK, I have moved along a bit. The issue I have now is that I can only get the CD drawer to come out. I'll keep trying. I have limited time to work on this right now before I have to go do some XMas stuff or my fingers hurt too much from turning wheels. :)

You need to move the laser further toward the back and then turn the wheel to completely raise the back up in playing position and then turn back the other way to drop the mechanism and open the LD tray.

OK, my finger is killing me but persistence has paid off, I have the big drawer out. The PSU is fully accessible.

I'll address the root issue when I next have time, I'm hoping I already have what's needed on hand.

Tonight I poked around a lot on the board. C14 (little blue 331) seems to have made itself open somehow, I don't have a replacement so one is on the way.
