I didn't forgot about this project and just to give a quick following, after more than 10 versions of the M holder I was not able to have something very clean and 100% identic to the original part, and lot of you know that this part is crucial, it needs to fit -perfectly- to work -perfectly-.
The history: - Some tests with SLA printing: failed - Lot of tests with MultiJet fusion printing (from a company in my town which have the machine): I could say it was near 95% ok, I have a CLD-S315 with a MultiJet printed M holder which is working perfectly, with my "final" file.
I'd say that if we want a perfect result, it will need an injection molding manufacturing. A friend told me about an company which can do it "online" so I just sent my latest STL version to have a quote... If it's not too expensive I will order a piece to try, but to be honest, your version with metal shaft seems the only cost/quality solution.
Whoa. Lots of progress on all fronts. My M-Holder is in its third round of beta testing, and as very close to a launch. I plan on manufacturing them with full QC, an installation guide and making them available on eBay. Most recently, one of my beta testers put my part through a 17 hour constant playback torture test and it had no issues.

Hello LD fans, after I ran out of original parts of the VNL1779, I invested time and money to reproduce this spare part. In cooperation with a company which specializes in 3D printing and 3D scanning, an original part was digitized with a high-accuracy 3D scanner and an STL file was created with it. After a few changes to the print file, a fully functional replica could be produced. (See attachments.)
3D manufacturing process: stereolithography (SLA) Material used: Somos® EvoLVe 128 white This material is a durable, tough plastic that is particularly suited for parts that must withstand mechanical loads.
Please understand that I'm not going to publish my 3D print file because it cost me about € 250 to get it created. (Unfortunately, I am unable to create and edit 3D files myself.) Additionally, due to the overall construction, the part can not be printed with regular consumer 3D printers.
However, if you are interested in purchasing replicated motor holder I will sell the part for € 15, regardless of the higher development costs. Just send me a pm for details.

I have to say though that this “protecting your investment” vibe is profoundly uncool. It’s LD. You don’t make money at it, you can’t even break even. LD is an expenditure. It drains its fans of money. Ask Julian about this. The idea that you want to keep for yourself the dimensions of someone else’s mass produced product…it seems petty and small minded. I shudder to think how much you must want for the part.
You can’t take it with you, man. Seriously.

what happened to the other guy who started the free share ware 3d printer scan?? I don't see their posts anymore. Should be able to try and use the free file for those who have access to 3D printers.
Just fixed my Pioneer CLD-D780/604 - replaced the original broken grey Mholder with the replacement Mholder I purchased from user Oppelix
Worked a treat !
First time Ive changed an Mholder..it was a lot easier than I feared - the easiest repair yet!..the replacement Mholder fitted perfectly...fixing holes lined up - cogs lined up...perfect.
First time tonight I've been able to watch discs with the D780 using Side B ....awesome ! (another junk player fixed)
Tried to take some photos of the new installed Mholder tonight..but lighting isnt great ...will post a couple of photos when in daylight.

Question... What are the symptoms with the 3D printed M-holders that were "close, but no cigar"?
Is it usually the gear not quite meshing correctly with rack teeth? If so, I may have a stop gap solution. It's not pretty, but would be simple to try. I bought a player that had stripped out the rack teeth so the sled couldn't move. No parts were available so on a whim I cut a piece of 1/16" thick 3M Scotch double stick foam tape & put it where the rack goes. Been spinning many discs since without an issue. I had to build a little foam tape ramp to get it to travel successfully into the turn cage, but it works. One unknown is the round turn gear in that cage. if it is just a bit more forgiving on tolerance than the upper and lower racks this might be a way of getting some players going while we wait for more exact printed parts. (Hope that didn't make you spit your milk out your nose It did work.)
Meanwhile... I'm in the market for an M-Holder for a CLD-59 if/when there's a supply.
Did the turn work despite or were you left with a single sided player? Had you thought of shimming under instead of over? (I'm picturing a sliced business card looking like zig zag in the teeth. Do I have that pictured correctly? If the sled is lubed correctly I'm thinking maybe even being able to replace the rack with a slice of velcro (maybe loop side, maybe hook side) would even work like my double stick tape solution. If we could get this right we could maybe get a "kit" solution where anyone with access to a 3D printer wouldn't have to worry so much about getting exacting tolerances in order to effect a repair.

If the laser carriage does not move properly, there can be several causes. (1) The axes of the replica motor holder used are not correctly positioned. This can result in the lower gear does not grip properly with the rack or the worm gear does not grip properly with the upper gear. (2) The rack teeth are damaged. (3) The 2 gears of the laser gear or the worm wheel are damaged. This possibility wasn't mentioned yet.

Issue was with Side B start. I shimmed between the white plastic track and metal. No issues after that.
Quick Update: Been using my CLD-D780 most often with the new installed 3D Printed MHolder from user Oppelix - its now in use for over a month...and posting that it is performing beautifully!

I've got mine available for sale now! DM me here, or find me on Laserdisc Forever on FB. Soft launch going on now with reduced price for first 20 units. Afterwards, it will be going on eBay. I CAD-modeled it from scratch and worked with a handful of beta testers across the globe (I'm in the US) over several revisions to perfect the dimensions and find an ideal blend of industrial resins for durability.
Hi, just wanted to chime in that I was also able to use Oppelix's part successfully to resurrect a D605 that got a little roughed up in shipping. Now I can finally try out my AC-3 discs.
