Assuming the counter starts at 3,000 like the X0, ~1,650 units in 1996 (starting from July/August), seemingly falling to ~750 in 1997 then another ~1,800 units over the course of 1998-2000 for a total of 4,000+?

Wasn't the X9 supposed to be produced in larger quantities?

What's your serial number?

Anyone owns a HLD-X9 with the new Pioneer logo to provide the serial?

Feb 2002 is the newest I've ever seen.

Mine is TETT006301JP from May 1999, with the original (and far superior) logo..

Made a graph of the highest known serial number/month.

Kind of makes sense (similar for the X0)!

Agreed on the logo. Not so much that I care about a font change but dropping the tuning fork/omega symbol was surely about the dumbest thing Pioneer ever did.

Back on topic I recently added this to my little X9 fleet:

Only saw this for the first time about an hour or so ago, after getting more curious; maybe anyone very interested in this thread already saw it: https://www.avsforum.com/threads/reminder-pioneer-hld-x9-ld-s9-to-be-discontinued-in-7-days.110516/?

Was there really X9 production up to May 2002? Or if there was a 31 January deadline did the Feb/Mar/... manufacturing satisfy it?

I think Nicolas was taking the serial # at face value:

Quote:
number of X9 built since launch: close to 7000

... but it looks like Pioneer started counting from 3,000, not from 0.
That would make it "close to 4,000" instead.

I have yet to see a X9 with a serial # below 3,000.

Nice! I Just found out that I have a very late example! It's a BD serial number which makes it April 2001...

Do we know If there are any later ones?

mint-o-matic is saying 2002 for the BB/BC/BD serial numbers, yet the original post says 2001. Which one is correct?

Good catch!

I probably jumped to "B" but there's a whole 2001 for A's don't have any serial for.

Right. So we can assume there are no players later than April 2002 because no higher serial than BDxxxx has ever surfaced?

That's how this table is built, yes.

So looking potentially perhaps possibly more like Nicolas may have been correct on a last production run of May 2002.
We have a BC
We have a BD
Can we find a BE?
