I've watched most of her videos, including that one... she gets a bit grating after a while but has some good info without getting TOO into the weeds. Also, not a ton of info on the LaserActive in that video... more about the potential SegaCD-styel LD add-on that never made it into development.
At least she's speaking very nice and clear English. If the video would have automatic CC, it would be no problem for Google to produce coherent and accurate live subtitles.
You're not missing a ton, information-wise. I've watched a lot of her retro gaming stuff... she covers some obscure stuff pretty well without getting too bogged down with minutia but there's just not a lot of info in this one. Every now and then she goes down some mild toilet humor rabbit holes, but it's usually just one off-handed joke and then back to the show.
Her latest video about the KONIX MULTI SYSTEM was full of jokes about the Welsh (since one of the inventors was Welsh), so I guess that's a thing Londoners make fun of?
why do youtube videos suck, they are always shot the same with same angles and same facial expressions, and same stupid tone in voices. I've seen one with guitars and a fool, its the same.
The more south you are in the UK the more groups you’re obligated to make fun of.
Weird, it's the opposite in the US... coming from someone who lives in the south.

Well 90% of them are made in someone's living room or bedroom by amateur content creators, so there's only so much you can do... even more so during/since covid. Even the relatively well produced ones I watch (New Rockstars, Andrew Robinson, Techmoan, and Tech Connections come to mind) don't stray too far from a pretty proven formula. Well done, it's not the worst thing in the world depending on the content... poorly done (I'm thinking Scott the Woz, even though I still watch all his stuff) it can be pretty grating.
Having no budget or talent or skill isn’t the issue. Youtubbers aim to ape whatever their favorite thing looks like. The homogeny is intentional and not to be avoided in their mind because if Marvel can make 20 of the same thing with the same cuts, same lame music, same overdone sound FX, direction that makes every event obvious, and make more money than all the other movies in the world combined then it’s hardly to be ignored.
And to be fair, YouTube gets WAY worse and WAY stupider than this. Open a Private window (no login, no cookies) and just look at diarrhea it recommends you. Everything is either stupid or gross or fake or all three. After you see what truly popular Youtuber’s…output…looks like you’ll be praying for Metal Jesus or Game Sack.

I agree with both, but I think its more leaning towards zeta on this one.
They have their formula, and I have been down the rabbit hole watching gross cow hoof trimming and trying to heal stones in their feet. Have no idea how it started but they pop up on my feed and its horrible.
I have to get some youtube videos going but won't do the BS route.
You have to get really aggressive with YouTube. Make some playlists, do a lot of up and down voting, report anything that bugs you, etc and eventually it will just show you good stuff %99 of the time. You also should always have auto play off and also you should really pay to remove the ads. YouTube is instantly %50 better without ads. Left on its own it will show you Kickstarter videos for things that are physically impossible to manufacture, people hurting themselves, and deep fake videos of right wing celebrities selling reverse mortgages. It’s genuinely satanic at it’s worst but amazing at its best.

I've been on a bit of a YouTube kick lately (thanks to being between a few series/seasons ending and waiting for a few others to start) and, honestly, the recommendations algorithm is doing a pretty decent job even without rating things... just a handful (10-20 maybe, with about half of them only releasing bi-monthly, a few weekly, and a few bi-weekly or daily) of subscriptions and not venturing TOO far off the beaten path really seemed to dial it in on my likes (DIY, retro gaming, home audio, obscure/retro consumer electronics, aviation/space). Granted Mondays, after the kids have been here for the weekend, do have a good bit of their fluff mixed in but by Tuesday it's usually back on track.
What really surprises me is it doesn't feed me a ton of Marvel/Star Wars stuff outside of New Rockstars, ScreenRant, EmergencyAwesome, etc. (stuff I actually watch)... there SO MUCH complete crap fan analysis/theory stuff out there but the recommendation algorithm shields me from most of it, and what does creep in is easy to recognize if as long as I pay attention to who's posting it. Maybe it's just my lack of straying too far down any weird rabbit holes and sticking to mostly known-quantity creators that's kept me lucky without putting in a ton of effort. I'm far more likely to binge a certain creator that I like than watch videos from 20 different people on a given subject. Maybe this is one rare instance of an echo chamber being beneficial?
I love fail army, will watch that over youtube any day.
Reverse mortgages are for poor people who bought their trailers when they had a small amount of money and either kids or no kids. I see why its good and why its bad. If you have nothing and are poor like the people in this state then its one of the better things to have happened otherwise we would be SOL.
Most of my Youtube viewing skews educational/historical or at least informational/instructional, even if what I'm learning about is a dumb topic (retro gaming definitely falls in that category). I should probably finish my arcade cabinet build instead of watching 10 more nearly identical videos about people building theirs from a Raspberry Pi and/or converting an Arcade1up.
