it had 10 leaking caps on it, which i changed.

after that i replaced a blown microfuse, that i blew slippint with my voltmeter.

the power supply voltages are not all right, i changed every cap, and checked everything that wasn'y a service mounted chip. just one of the voltages is just too off...i think its a plwn surface mount power amp switch on the board, according to my intermediate knowledge.

I'll get the exact voltages if anyone cares. the unregulated 16vand -16v is only 14.63, and -15.5v, the 8v,-8v is good , the 5v is good, but the power mute check voltage is only 14v out of 17v.

i got it to play a laserdisc, but could not detect a cd.

then I got it to play a CD but not a laserdisc(this is playing with the servo tilt controls)

Then while checking the microprocessor frequency according to the manual...it decided to not play on side A but go into OFF mode, but i was able to select side B while the tray was open and it played side B.

now, it can't detect THE LASERDISC, SAYS NO DISC.

But it will go into OFF mode if I put a cd in.

why do people want these sony POS's?

I don't think it's the micro processor. Ibought a cheapo frequency counter, the servicer manual says 14.318180 MHZ plus or minus 40HZ. well my counter only goes 4 digits pasts the decimal...so I have 14.3181 but dancing back and forth from and 1 and 2 on the final digit.

i think i'll go back to figuring out the voltage problems, since its decided to stop functioning completly now.

there is a debugging mode if i get the remote.. which i ordered. maybe i can figure why it can't play a cd with out s****ing its pants, and flashing off.

There are a set of power supply caps on the main board hidden within a metal cage. Have you replaced those caps as well?

oh man, i see that cage now, thanks...maybe it's not the crappy main voltages, just further regulation down the line.

thanks I'll check it out..when I decide to dive back in.

Based on what I have heard from cplusplus and various YouTube videos, the issue on the MDP-600 should only be bad caps and nothing more. Thus, don’t mess with any settings until you get those last caps replaced.

I just got an MDP-600 awhile back and I’ll be working on it as well when I get a chance.

I don’t think I’ve heard anyone lately express any kind of interest in Sony LD players. But I would expect a Sony fanboy would have it on their list.

Anyway, the reason I have an MDP-600 is because someone was giving it away for free (same for an MDP-650 I have as well). If I had to pay for one, I probably wouldn’t even consider them because of their propensity to having issues. Anyway, since I know the 600 is a cap issue, it was a no brainer to take it and see about making a fix. If it turns out to not be the fix, I could remove the new caps and just dispose of the player and not feel I wasted a lot of money on it.

maybe it's not getting the signal to go clockwise spin.

Similar issue popped up in [MDP-600] Won’t spin backwards (counter-clockwise) and was successfully fixed.

(one transistor was dead and needed replacement to get the right voltage out)
