Daicon LD

that was listed before the yahoo auctions.

but still, the lowest offer you can make would be 1/2 :wtf:
i'm still in shock that the disc sold for almost 600 bucks :wtf:

if i had it, it would have been sold by now and someone else would be very happy, but not
as happy as me

I'm not. Like I said, this thing is THE anime LD to have. As far as I'm concerned its the ultimate LD of all time. I'm not sure there is anything worth half as much as this.* What it represents, the era it originated in, its rarity, the fact that it will never be reprinted...I seriously can't think of anything that comes close. People get excited about the silliest stuff, "Dude, its DTS!" "Dude, commentary!". This thing trumps all of that. Only available directly from GP themselves 25+ years ago featuring characters from multiple shows animated far more lavishly than in the source material they were stolen from...its magic.

Its not worth $2500 though, that's just stupid. $500-1000 is about what I expect. If I saw the thing go for less than $100 I'd...just cry. It would mean that not only is the golden age of anime well behind is, but also that nobody even remembered it.

*For a while there, Five Star Stories was pretty damned valuable, but not so much anymore. Its on DVD.

yeah, when i bought my first copy at tower for 100 new when i saw it.
a couple years after i sold it, kicking my self i bought it again here for close to the same price.
about 2 weeks after receiving it one sold on the bay for 20 bucks.

:wtf: it will all depend on who has it and what one is willing to pay.
so the guy sold one on the bay for close to the one that sold on Yjapan.
when you get your copy it won't sell for 500-6 anymore then it will sell for less etc.
there are anime discs that i wanted really bad and paid top dollar for them, but they were much
less than half of what the daicon sold for AND they were new not on the secondary market.

In the early 2000s FSS was going for $500 at times. It had been out of print for a decade at that point, no DVD, no bittorrent, etc, meanwhile the manga is always running , gaining more fans all the time. That's what I meant by "valuable". $100 was what everyone paid new. Everything was $100.

Less that $400 USD. That's actually pretty reasonable.

And I'm the winner... or loser cuz it's a bit more than i was anticipating... Either way, I did it because of it's historic value within the anime interest that's basically been lifelong for me, and can tell it's condition with reasonable accuracy unlike some i've seen listed... and i have an X0 to play it on. shame i don't have the rest of the hardware that substance has - was looking at the Teranex AV though!

So no, i don't support the Ebay inflation - even if i just contributed to it with such a rarity.. oops!

So i've been working on digitizing it along with a couple others that came to me after acquiring it. So far i have it in lossless .AVI (a 20gb file!) If you're interested i can PM you the link to the dropbox of it! (otherwise there should be an mp4 of the animations on it in the coming week that i can link)

I own this disc and it does indeed have rot. It kind of blends with the heavy film damage though. I think the second side with the live action stuff was worse than the anime side.

The thing that will kill some people on this board is the price I paid...... ¥500. Apparently the site I bought it from had no idea of the value at the time. Mine was the second time I saw it pop up, first time it was ¥300!! I didn't believe it until I had it in my hands, but it was real! They know the value now! Last one I saw was ¥50,000 and it sold.

Still need to get one of these - a rare title that actually is rare. Great price on that one, rot and all.

Is the live action content on the Daicon LD the same as on Otaku no Video? When I watched Otaku no Video in the '90s I pledged to become an Otaking and also imagined what it would be like if General Products actually existed, but they actually did..even putting out LDs..so good..a definite holy grail of mine and many.

We all know that not all of these discs have rot, but the price is too high from sellers who won't test them out.
While I would love to own one there are many other items that are more Otaku to make one an Otaku-King than this.

I can name a handful of stuff, this is like a kids toy in comparison.
Still cook but not anywhere on the scale.
