wanted to hear what others have to say about them, if they have fixed them etc.

never had any before but i
just picked up 2 and wanted to hear others stories.

1 seems to have flattened out in my shelf and plays fine so far, going to give it some more time.
other gives issues at the end of the disc, last 5-10 minutes of each side.

I've encountered quite a few warped LDs and all were able to be salvaged to some degree.

I used a similiar process to what the other thread outlines except I did it inside without the heat of the sun.
I simply left a LD underneath a heavy even weight (lots of telephone books or a large pile of magazines etc) for a period of several months - occasionally rotating until it was eventually perfectly flat.

Prior to doing this one particular disc was so badly warped - it was about 1.5 inches off centre and would have damaged the player if I had attempted to play it.
Afterwards it was fully playable with just the odd herring bone pattern on the outer most sections.

I have a remastered LD of Papillon Dolby Digital which became slighlty warped, then placed this in the middle of the rest of a large amount of Laserdisc's for a while and played it again around 2 to 3 months later..........All good.

I havn't had any other warped disc's.

As long as they are away from direct light and stored upright correctly then they will stay in shape.

Regards to all

Couldn't find the right spot so will post this here. I was searching for along time for the Science Fantasy Marine Flowers LD. After seeing one and bought, it arrived today. Quite interesting, the music too, and comes with a booklet (in Japanese ) 2 sides in CAV.
On side one about half way on the last chapter (chapter 4) it gets laser lock. I can jump it ahead bits but still locks. Scanning it ahead goes as far as it can and then gets the white/ black picture. Which does that on all 3 of my players. Side 2 the last chapter right near the end has similar issues. My one player will get through side 2 end with a just a few jitters, the other 2 players lock though. Never had any problems with laser lock other then my Discovision, and my other discs play fine.

Picture quality pretty good, with just the odd white usual flecks, so I don't think it's rot. The disc doesn't look like it's warped and no scratches. I tried cleaning it, but didn't help, so maybe a pressing defect. Here is a picture of the cover. Does anyone else have this one? and does yours have any defect?

I've some discs with this issue, f.e.

Subsitute, The
Soldier
Batman Returns

You do not see that the LD's are warped, but towards the end of side one, picture problems will appear.
Some horizontal lines going slowly up as the disc plays on, sometimes red, like what we could often see
on an old vhs tape that had too many playbacks...

Between 40:00 and 59:59 min depending on the LD.

I've tried to flatten them, used 2 flat surfaces and a huge weight.
After a few days, I don't see any improvement.

After how long could we expect something ?
I've read a few months...

I did mine in the summertime using the sun to heat up the disc and two sheets of glass. Left everything outside for an hour, then flipped the disc and let it sit for another hour, then build a "glass" sandwich with the disc in the middle. An hour later I brought everything indoors and applied weight. 24 hours later I removed the weight and the disc was/is nice and flat.

I cannot stress enough that they need to be stored vertically. And minimize leaning. Never, ever stack them flat for any period of time.

Leaving tight shrinkwraps on jackets can also warp your laserdiscs so best to remove them.
Something to bear in mind if you are buying sealed LDs as you potentially face two unknown factors - rot and warping!

I had a warped disc of The Manitou, the stereo release version, and I was never able to dewarp it enough to get an acceptable audio extraction to sync with the video from the DVD (which is mono). Now, when I check eBay, I can never find another Nelson copy of The Manitou, even though when it didn't matter, I saw them all the time.

If anyone has a good copy they'd be willing to lend me so I could get a good audio copy, I'd be greatful.

I've managed to get my problem on video.
Could warp be the cause of this kind of playback problem ?
Or is it another kind of rot ?

Looking at your video it looks like your laser is slightly misaligned and the discs are slightly out of spec, causing the problem. If the laser was perfectly aligned it wouldn't have a problem reading a slightly out of spec disc. If the disc was warped you'd see crosstalk and not the kind of dropouts and laser lock you are experiencing.

that's what my player was doing, duncan said it was the laser going bad and i needed to get it replaced.

mine was much better and worse on some discs, only a hand full but it was doing it more and more.
when i played the same discs on my 503 it was fine with no issues.

I didn't think of that possibility - usually that shows up as digital audio problems, problems playing CAV, etc... So a bad laser didn't occur to me.

You're right !

I was testing some newly aquired LD's on my old CLD-2950 unit who doesn't work perfectly.
I've just played the same disc on my X9, no problem at all...

Didn't know such problem could be player related.
LDDB support worked :D
