As I mentioned R895 is not mounted on a D515 / 315 that is why you do not have signal, see below
Just solder R895 to the right solder island which goes directly to pin 43 of IC802 (indicated in green)

Nice! :D

Did you also fit the cap behind the optic connector or did you leave it out?

Yep,

Installed the cap behind the optical output . I've fitted the cap and connector a few months ago... the light was there but no sound :eh:
Didn't spend much time investigating why it did not output a signal. Just yesterday when I read the new posts...came to realize I did not fit r895.
Just a fun little experiment :geek:

next move... an electrical output and maybe throw in S-vhs out.... :problem: mmmhhh no let's make it HDMI out...
I'm about to fry this player

Which Toslink transmitter are you guys using? The original Sharp GP1F32T seems to be really difficult to find. I was only able find it as Sony sparepart at ridiculous price. Other TTL level transmitters with 3 pins probably work as well. Toshiba has the TOTX177A, but it seems to be difficult to get also. Only Mouser seems to stock it for 1,53 €, but my understanding is that they won't sell to private customers. Only easily available option would the previous Toshiba model TOTX179L here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/140732561782 .

Same story here.
Got the connector from a spare parts unit I keep around for these kind of experiments
You would be amazed how many 2nd hand parts can come in handy one day.
I'll be on the lookout for another player to modify this way. a simple cld-s315 would be nice to give it a go. they are nice no nonsense players that last a lifetime.
Not too much mechanics involved is a + in many ways. fewer things can go wrong.
No point in owning one since I sold all spare cld-d315's some time ago. probably won't come out of the closset for years to come but who cares...
The Toslink connector can be found online for a few cents and is also available at any electronics repair shop.
have about 13 spare cld-d925's , a cld-d515 , 2 x dvl-919E , 6 demodulators and spare parts to last a lifetime so I'm good to go until the day I die :D
Crazy I Know

Did you check the part number on it by any change? Was it directly compatible with mounting holes on the D515 pcb? My hunch would say that transmitters in recent DVD player would not use TTL level voltage, but 3 V instead. It might not work for very long.

I was finally able to find the current transmitter model from Sharp. It's GP1FAV31TK0F and it's available from many component suppliers (at least RS and Farnell) for about one euro. It works both with 3 V and TTL and has an integrated dust shield.

As you can read back,i also put a cap behind it to cover the 6,3 volt max peak @ 100 uF

:)

Mine came from à pioneer dvd player from 1999.Also the one i used was à perfect fit, 3 leg fitting and 2 plastic fould/melt feet.

It wil burn out if you don t have à cap in place.

Succesfully installed an optical digital output on a cld-s315 I purchased this week.

It's fun upgrading a good basic ld player this way.
One must be patient to cut out the square on the back panel.
As a template I use the cld-d925 to make a precise cut in the s315 back panel
It also worked like a charm on my cld-d515 .

I'm afraid I've found myself a new addiction :wtf:
Now thinking about how to make a cld-s315 output PAL analoge sound.... :geek: Any ideas? someone?

I'll keep that in mind.

BTW. I need a coax output, because the optical inputs on my amp are all taken
