So I checked my collection, and I have a disc from this time frame, with the same bumper only mine starts partly into it. So I'm not sure if mine is cropped, or if it's all there, and you need a earlier player to access the very start (like Discovision Bumpers)
Definatley a cool one, and probably a few discs used this Space bumper. Anyone else have or seen interesting bumpers?
I've a few early Japanese Pioneer LDs that used part of that bumper as the intro or end but I don't recall any discs that used all of of it which is a shame as the start with the gradually building sythesizers was the best part!
Another nice one on many later Japanese music releases was the rotating 3D style EMI Toshiba logo - looks very modern even now.
I found one I forgot that I had. A 1981 Japan Pioneer The Ventures Live In LA.
I'm pretty sure it has that full bumper. All my players start it at frame 0 but if I use the reverse scan button, I can get it to go back a couple frames to see there's more. So you would need one of the older players that doesn't recognize start/stop codes, and playes the disc right from the beginning. I wonder if the 704 player would work (which has the code disable feature)
The Code Disable feature of the CLD-D704 is just for Picture Stop codes. I suspect the only players that will play the full opening are the early gas-tube units. All others search for frame 0 to start playback. The LD-660 referenced in the notes is a good choice as is the VP-1000. Where the LD-660 is the best choice is that it ignores the 'end of side' code and will play out until the physical end of disc is reached. I think I have an Elton John concert disc that has these same bumpers.
For those thinking of buying a top-loading player so they can view the entire opening bumpers on discs, Blaine's recommendations are spot on - I'd just add to stay away from the PR-7820 either from MCA DiscoVision or the Pioneer 'Model-3' version. It's the only Helium-Neon laser based player that scans past the Lead-In tracks and searches for Frame 0 (on CAV discs) or 0 Minutes/0 Seconds (on CLV discs). The Magnavox Magnavision VH-8005 (the remote control version) also skipped the Lead-In tracks, but I doubt you'll find a working model for sale.
By putting opening disc logos and such on the Lead-In tracks, MCA was actually breaking their own mastering rules because an LD is not supposed to have any programming during the first 2 to 3 minutes of each side due to the low video s/n ratio and limited frequency response of the tracks at the innermost radius.
Guys I have this exact disc.(White Music) And yes, I only bought it because of the bumper. It will only play from the start if you have an older player, otherwise is starts when the Pioneer starts zooming in.
I love the original Laservision bumper. I think it's only on 3 discs: The original release of Grease, Charlotte's Web, and The Warriors. I love it cause it is so different to the common one we have all seen. The music is really funky.

I didn't know it was on "The Warriors". It is also with the music on the MVC copy of "Alien".

Have you ever noticed that the turtle bumper on the blank side of a LD will run for 2 minutes 30 seconds instead of the usual 5-minute time? Maybe 10 minutes on another?
Why, yet another LD will have the turtle bumper run for the usual 5 minutes and the screen goes blank for the next 25 minutes? I know Technidisc blank sides run for 30 minutes, but this is weird and rare!
