lacanzz wrote: Well I think I found a soundbar online that will support my laserdisc player. Since I have a newer laserdisc player that supports optical. Now I need to also find a AC3-RF demodulator online. If you are using a soundbar, you can just use the stereo outputs. Sound quality of a soundbar is going to be so low that it won't make a difference.

signofzeta wrote: It has nothing to do with sound quality. There is no point to Dolby Digital 5.1 over Dolby Surround when you only have two speakers. A 5.1 system needs six speakers...or at least three. Sorry, I think I misunderstood. I thought you meant that you are listening to the audio with a soundbar only. In that case, stereo output is fine. If you are going to upgrade to a 6 channel setup, then yes, a multichannel output is worthwhile.

If your TV has optical out, you might as well wire that into the soundbar. Anything's better than the TV's own speaker! Well, almost anything.
