This is a question for Julien.

However the primary aim of the LDDb is to be a marketplace and I am not sure whether Julien wants to get involved in the trade of LD players.

Also, some years ago Julien started already such a prototype list about LD players in the LDDb, it covered only a few hundred players and it did not offer much of the essential information like which connectors it has got, which signals are available from this player, which features the player does support.

Yes it's been an old prototype that mimicked the old LD titles interface with the hope to go back and work on it after the flow of submit/titles/covers slow down but it never did in 10 years!

I put a few players as a start but the interface to submit/update is disabled:

http://www.lddb.com/list.php?format=player&list=usa
http://www.lddb.com/list.php?format=player&list=japan
http://www.lddb.com/list.php?format=player&list=europe

If we can stabilize/formalize a nearly complete list, maybe it's time to work on it again. The improvement of the LD covers display (allowing for multiple pictures) will also come handy.

Ex: HLD-X9 / Pioneer (1996)

What other connectors should be described?

  • Composite RCA
  • S-Video DIN
  • Audio RCA (L/R)
  • AC3RF Output
  • Optical Output
  • Coaxial Output

I can already see MUSE OUT is missing.

Features, I initially listed:
  • Legato Link
  • Comb Filter
  • Frame Memory
  • OSD (on screen display)
  • CD Tray
  • Karaoke functions
  • SCART
  • Headphone plug
  • LD-G
  • CD-G

What else would make sense?

Julien

Hi Julien,

you are right - I forgot to add MUSE output ... :o

Besides the output connectors you mentioned already (Composite RCA, S-Video DIN, Audio RCA (L/R), AC3RF Output, Optical Output, Coaxial Output) there are also:

EFM Output (for EFM Decoder: digital sound, or LVROM data)
RGB Output (inside "EuroSCART", or special DIN Connector for analog RGB)
Component Output (some combi players have it, but works only if DVD is played back): 3 RCA, or D-Connector
Antenna Output
System control Output

and also

Antenna Input (in/through)
EFM Input (in case of a EFM Decoder or a LV-ROM Adaptor)
MUSE Input (in case of a MUSE Decoder)
System control Input
Microphone Input
Wireless Microphone adapter connector
AUX input (analog stereo and/or composite video)

Besides the features you have mentioned there are also the following:

Digital EFM output (digital sound can be read and output to an external EFM-Decoder - which is not available in the player itself, e.g. Sony LDP-330)
Audio RCA (R/L) can be switched to digital sound
CX decoding
DTS output via Toslink or Coaxial
Basic Karaoke functions (buttons for direct selection of songs, Karaoke button suppressing a singer's voice)
Key control (sharp and flat buttons for sound transposition)
Karaoke scoring function

These are the features that came right now into my mind.

And I have ONE QUESTION about the current player list I am editing:

I have prepared a PDF file (740 KB) that I could not upload because of "PDF not allowed",
and now I have also prepared a set of 16 PNG pictures (each below 150 KB) with the same content, in order to be able to post my current player list - in 16 subsequent posts, because there is only one attachment allowed in one posting ...

Is there a possibility to upload the complete PDF file in order that everybody interested could download it?
I think this would come more handy than to browse through 16 separate posts ...

ZIP is an allowed extension. Just compress the PDF using your chosen ZIP program or built-in OS function.

@msgohan:
Thank you for this good hint, I did not know that. However even as ZIP file my list is still much too big to be allowed for upload ...

@all:
Now I opened a new thread (The Extended LD Player List) and succeeded to post my entire "Extended LD Player List" in the form of 12 separate pages plus one picture of the explanations!

My model names list in the top post of this thread has its counterpart in the thread "The Extended LD Player List", where I added technical information to each model in the model name list as far as I knew it. However there are still many models of which I don't know anything besides the name ...

I have updated now the model names list in the top post of this thread.

I have deleted two players from my list: the Sony LD-870 and the Teac LV-3000C. I found them in the English Laserdisc Archive, but I suppose that they got mistakenly there and do not really exist ... the LD-870 is actually from Pioneer, and the LV-3000C seems to be a spelling error for the LV-3000V. If I am wrong please correct me.

On the other hand I have added a few models that I had overlooked, i.e. the Pioneer CLD-2400, CLD-3060, DVL-909E, the Denon LA-2200K, and the players that were sold by the company "Teknika Electronics", and by the German company "Grundig" - thanks to the information from user lons_vex.

In a few days I will update the list in the other thread "The Extended LD Player List" accordingly (done).

The LD player list is still far from complete, therefore I hope for some additional information from you all. Also I plan to continue to search for more details and update this list from time to time.

Now I have updated the laserdisc list in my top posting as well as the list in the "Extended LD Player List" thread - the number of models has considerably increased.

Up to now already some users have given helpful information about LD player models - especially lons_vex (Grundig), blam1 and retro_games. And ertoili gave me a model name (however no technical detail).

But still I have the feeling that I need more feedback, because many models are still missing - whenever I see a bunch of old laserdisc players, nearly always I see also one that is not yet on my list! E.g. today I walked into a shop where three used resp. junk LD players were for sale, and my list increased again by 1 (Kenwood LVD-280) ... :o

Still waiting for your input ...
Since I mentioned that I could use some help in form of player names, if possible together with a list of their connectors resp. features, it got very silent in this thread ...
Since I do not have a laserdisc player shop or a player or manual collection, I would appreciate it if everybody reading this would post the spec of the players at his hand into this thread. But maybe I was too optimistic.

Today I walked into a shop selling vintage gear including laserdisc players (65 km from my place), and saw 13 "junk" LD players of which 12 were not any more operational, plus 12 players that were operational and were offered by the shop with some kind of "guarantee": if one buys a player and finds a problem with it and brings it back to the shop within 10 days, one gets a full money refund. After 10 days - nothing. What can I say - at the end I walked out of this shop and had bought a used, but very good looking Pioneer CLD-K88G karaoke player including manual, remote control, and a wireless microphone - after I had been allowed to test it already inside the shop, and my test had been successful.

The motive behind my purchase was that up to now I always had players primarily to watch movies, but I had never one with key control and karaoke scoring function ... Now I look forward to try some karaoke singing using those functions that are still new to me ... ;-) And I have bought also some CDs with CD+G on it, so that I can try out also this functionality.

Why I am telling you this is that within the 13 junk players I saw today in the shelf of this shop I found THREE players that are not yet in my player list: Clarion MVA-300-100, Panasonic LX-K8000, and Marantz CDV610K. Though I have listed here already more than 900 LD player models it is obvious that it is still rather easy to find players not yet mentioned in my list - obviously my list is still very far from complete, and without the informational input of all of you my LD player list will not get much further than it is now ...

Thank you very much for this hint!

I knew that laserdisc players restricted to the 20cm format existed (as specialised karaoke autochangers) but I was not aware that also laserdisc players existed that were restricted to the 12cm format ... :o
Of course I will add these CDV/CD models (more precise: VSD/CDV/CD models) to my list!

But please give me a few days - just now I have overseas visitors here and no time for serious editing.

Thank you for making the list.
I can give you pictures of the VSD/CDV players and their remotes, front , back, side etc., as i got 5 of the 6 players (there could be more, can't find any however). You can find info about those also in this topic: CDV-Single players
About the 8" ones in this topic: http://forum.lddb.com/viewtopic.php?t=225&p=7451

@svwees:
Since the information about these CDV players in the Internet is very thin,
I would love to see pictures of your CDV/CD players, from the front and from the rear - the other sides are not so interesting I think.
In your thread about the CDV-Single-Players I saw pictures of your Sony CDP 301V and of your Yamaha CDV M777, and also an advertisement about the Philips CDV 185, but I still have many open questions:

E.g. about the Philips CDV 185 (PAL):

Does it play back also 8cm CD-Singles? I ask because I do not see the CD-Single logo on it, and I saw nowhere the open tray.
Does it have VHF output?
Does it have composite video and stereo audio connectors in form of 3 RCA sockets (yellow, red and white), or a SCART connector, or both?
It seems to have a digital coaxial RCA socket for digital audio output, but all of your other CDV players have no digital output, neither coaxial nor optical ??
Does it also have a control input connector?
Why are there two phones connectors? Are these two mono-connectors (one for each ear) or two stereo connectors (for 2 persons) ?
Do you know in which year it was manufactured?
Which mains voltages does it support?

You are right; the Philips i didn't review in that topic which i know is a shame actually.

Image
Philips and Pioneer one i have in use.

Afaik all of the players are from around 1988.

ImageImage
ImageImage
ImageImage

All of the 5 players i've got have RF in and out (In is only for daisy chaining)
All the 5 got composite RCA jack out.
All got Stereo analog RCA jacks out.

Only the Philips also has a digital coax RCA out. (So it can play DTS cd's as well, but select only digital then of course on your amp)

Image

Only the Philips has also SCART.
Only The Philips is Pal, the rest NTSC
The Philips Pal one is 220 Volts 50Hz, the rest is Japanese 100 Volts only at 50 and 60Hz compatible ( I use a sturdy transformer to exactly 100 Volts for those).

Afaik they all have 8cm cd single recessed indents.

Some have extra mono RCA out.
Most have large stereo headphone jacks, the Philips two small headphone jacks, volume knob controlling both, Sharp one, i don't know.
Some have multi pin flat socket (M 777), other slim rc, other RCA type control connections

I will unbox the other (stored) ones tomorrow to photograph them front and rear and seperate photo's of the remotes one by one in daylight.
I can zip and send you those then.

The Sharp QT 93V would be the only true portable laserdisc unit in the world!
Unfortunately i can't find any info whatsoever about that Boombox.

(It would be awesome if Techmoan would review one of these players).

PS: @allgaeuer: I sent a PM with a link to the photo's.

I saw a rare player on Yahoo Japan, The Sharp MV D100 when i searched for CDV, but it appeared to be a normal multiplayer from Sharp, not a CDV %" only one and already on the list here.
(for enthousiasts, 1 day left )

The Sharp MV-D100 is indeed a nearly normal LD/LDS/CDV/CD/CDS multiplayer for all sizes of discs, with digital optical output and S-video output as well. What is special is that it is a 3 CD changer: it can load 3 CD size discs at the same time, or one large laserdisc (20cm or 30cm).

I have updated now the laserdisc player list in the top post - now we are already looking at 954 models. Let us see whether the list will go up beyond 1000 ...

allgaeuer,

Four laserdisc players are missing in your list, 3 from the former Soviet Union (of which two already mentioned in this thread : Russian-made LDs and LDPs... ) and one from Russia.

USSR made (HeNe laser) :
- Русь (Rus) 501 ВИДЕО (501 VIDEO) : http://red-innovations.su/index/photos_v/rus501.html (1988)
- Русь (Rus) ВП 201 (VP 201) : http://red-innovations.su/index/photos_v/rus201.html (1990)
- Амфитон (Amfiton) ВП 201 (same as above, but from different factory and brand) : https://forum.auto.ru/audiovideo/176849/

Russian made (Sanyo semi-conductor laser head) :
- Колибри (Colibri) VP-101 : http://red-innovations.su/index/photos_v/colibri.html (licensed Philips CDV-496, trom 1993 downward)

Thank you for this hint and the list of the four "Russian" LD players!
I suppose these are all PAL players? Can they play also NTSC discs?
I have added these 4 players now to my list in the first post.

Do you have more info about these players, like do they have digital audio output (coaxial or optical?), can they play back also 8cm CD-Singles? etc.

Well, when i get time, I will translate the above webpages unless a native Russian gives us here in Shakespeare's tong what they are saying.

From what I have seen so far, they play PAL encoded discs, but there's a trick : in USSR, the TV set were SECAM, not PAL (neither NTSC). It would be interesting to know if they transcoded PAL to SECAM or if there were another way to use this player on soviet TV set.

Apparently, no digital output. Only analog audio and video combined on one single DIN socket, a very common Soviet practice.

The Philips clone: http://red-innovations.su/index/photos_v/colibri.html appeared to have digital coax out if you take a close look at the pictures.
