Happy that its still keeping its value. Now I need to think about selling off mine if I can find a DVD or Bluray of the same picture quality without any tinkering.

$55 is a lot, IMO. I didn't get mine until a few years ago and I think I paid less than $10 for an obi-less
but otherwise perfect copy. Being on American eBay really jacks values through the roof.

Looking at YAJ now the average going rate for this common title is a pretty consistent 1000yen ($9.27). If with every fee imaginable stacked on top you should still be able to undercut $55 even if this is a single purchase.

 Don't know about that, I just made another order and it may really be my last order.
They do really get you with all the fees, even if you are doing it on the cheap.

Paid 1000Y with obi and still had original plastic wrap with sticker.

All fees and shipped was $40AU or about $32US

Got to love the artwork on this BoxSet, very nice & best part is that it has English as well as Japanese. Maybe no mono for English but it sounds great to me.

Just got my order.
Going to post US dollar and Yen as I didn't figure out all the prices, or got some on their site in both.

Lets do this double disc set that I bought.
Paid $6.60 for the double disc film, shipping from Japan to buyee was 1000Y and shipping to me on that disc was 24.32 making it a rough grand total of 39.92

But this was after breaking it down in an order of over 15 titles and dividing the shipping cost over those discs.
If it was just this one movie then the shipping would have been much more.

I have a breakdown of each disc and picking up a 6 disc box set ended up costing me about 15 bucks less than if I had just bought it on ebay from a USA re-seller.
And you have no idea of playback issues, so far 1 disc was broken and I'm out about $25 bucks on that pill.

So it about evens out but with a lot less hassle and fewer steps from eBay but with a much better selection on YAJ (1000 yen copies of this are there all day every day whereas this was a "good deal" by eBay standards).

I'll still usually import these days. I trust no photos and no description from a Japanese seller more than I trust all but the most complete eBay seller. :) Also, this title is super duper common. More obscure stuff is much harder to find from American sellers...unless Rein-O is selling it to me of course. :)

BTW, Buyee did some weird ish and closed my account so I'm open to suggestions for alternatives...

Sorry to hear about your broken disc rein-o.

I learnt to specify very exactly the packaging standard I wanted to ship discs or electronics to me including double-boxing. Before that for the most part everything was good but you never know what dunce might be on packing duty that day. Early on after a couple of flawless deliveries I got a box that was poorly packaged beyond belief and damaged a few box sets so I learnt the lesson early.

This might sound a little OCD but I have an annotated packaging diagram I include for them with every shipping request. During the time I've done that there have been no issues with shipping damage whatsoever, and if they didn't follow that and something is damaged you have much greater recourse. Sure they should know; but many people just don't get shipping an LD vs a DVD these days, so sometimes unless you ask you don't get, and even if the guy packing on Monday might be switched on, the Wednesday person might not, always better to be safe than sorry.

I live in Australia so the experience as far as postage goes is a bit different but for anything Japanese I save at least a little bit up to a whole heap by buying direct from Japan vs from ebay re-sellers.

Yes there are more options, even with the rare discs that sometimes aren't on Ebay or here on LDDB.
Its more for the I can't find it and must have it or I would rather spend 30-50 from YJ compared to 80 on ebay for us the USA.

As for the shipping I went super cheap, didn't pay them 500y each order to examine.
OK I'm out 25 bucks but i the end I saved 60 bucks on the other titles.

Also I didn't pay for the extra packing after consolidation, they were just dropped inside a box but they all came through fine with surprisingly no split corners on boxes or single discs.
The broken disc still had the original packaging from the seller to buyee and it was just brown paper with no bubble wrap.

As for others??? I've only used buyee and this is the second time, its pretty pricey and I do hope I don't go broke after this order LOL

Think I've mentioned before I use j-subculture and am registered as a 'business user' which saves on fees but you can only top up your account via TransferWise. That takes a day or two compared to paypal being instant but then you also get a much better deal on exchange rates and fees there too.

Saw them get a bad rap recently for poorly packaging a LD player that was damaged but they've shipped several to me including X9 no problem - though refer back to my post above about packaging!

I have used Rinkya, Shopping Mall Japan and currently use From Japan. I can recommend all three but FJ has been the best by far. They have a flat rate fee of ¥300 per auction (¥700 incl checking item on arrival + insurance). They have great shipping rates with FedEx. My latest shipment was 23 kg and cost ¥12736 (~ $116). And they have a superb customer service :D

It's a great set if you're a fan of the film.

They did use up too much paper for James Cameron, though :D

I paid 960 yen shipped for mine, still in the plastic.

Totally non-anime, but the Shinya Tsukamoto box set is cool in that way too, the 30-or-so page booklet is half english, half japanese, and some of the films have little speech anyway.

About every 10th order of mine from YAJ has an issue though, and that's shipping within the country. Sometimes it's just the age of the items. Other times, it's something else.

The first Shinya Tsukamoto box set I ordered, some weird rubber on the edges of the discs melted and stuck all the discs to the sleeves. Seller said, "Oh I didn't check the discs when I said it was mint."

Yeah, YAJ can be a hit or miss. I've picked up hundreds of items from there. Most of the time there's no issues but it happens. I bought the Evangelion box a while back and the seller forgot to put back the laserdiscs before shipping it out  and I've received bootleg game carts that were supposed to be original. There's always a certain level of risk involved. You just have to decide whether it's worth it or not.

These are just the sticky edges that sometimes happens with a few LDs.
Disclord/Ty posted some info about it but I can't remember why it happens.

You can clean them pretty easily.
