I would love to have that Nemo box. It's a really messed up uneven movie but it's still amazing to look at and, IIRC, that box was the first place you could see the two previous pilot films. Both really make you wonder what could have been. :(

However, I would not classify this as a Japanese movie dubbed into English. It's a really murky classification in this case since the movie was in dev hell for like a decade with most of the best talent in Japan working on it at one time at other (three different Ghibli directors AND Dezaki!?!?) but the scripting and storyboarding were done in the US as well as other things so I'd say it's at most %50 "anime", possibly less so than Transformers even since there were in fact white people drawing frames on Nemo.

As for the question, I have the Ghibli box and the weird 1998 Cagliostro box and these two are a great way to get some old Carl Macek dubs, including his dub of Kiki and Laputa which I'm pretty sure were never sold anywhere else. You get Porco, Totoro, Kiki, and Laputa I think...

GitS of course, a must-have LD.

I have a few western works as Japanese LDs with JP dubs on them. Father Christmas (Rayman Briggs) and Transformers: The Movie come to mind.

Now regarding that lupin box. I am also after that, but after checking many months I never saw one in the wild.

Well, it's 20 years old so "many months" isn't a very long time to be looking. Wherever your copy is, it's been waiting way longer for you. :)

I got mine maybe a year ago on YAJ. I don't remember what I paid but it couldn't have been more than $35 since I'm cheap.

I had a copy and sold it about 1-2 years ago.
It is nice with a booklet but just couldn't justify keeping it as I didn't like the dubbing so off it went to another collection.

The dubbed DYRL is harder to find. It's also next level terrible dub and not the best transfer of the film. When I see it they want like $70+ most of the time, American Robotech collectors mostly, I would assume. I would love to have it but I'm not going to pay more than $10 for the POS so I guess I never will.

"A man and a woman?"
"What?"
"A MAN AND A WOMAN?!"
"Disgusting!"

Man, good times.

Not for me. The manga was nothing on Appleseed and the movie was the start of a horrible CGI trend in anime that partly killed anime for me.

Wouldn't take a GitS box if it was free.

No thanks. Not interested in that (however nicely packaged) pile of suck.

I don't really count it as classic anime, or if I do its something that is the newest I can deal with.
There really is a separation from the anime I watch and then GiTS.

If GITS is challenging (although you can watch good video reviews of it to help you dive deeper)... I would urge your to stay away from a an amazing movie called "Tenshi no Tamago".

If you're into David Lynch or highly symbolic movies, you're in for a treat.
For more mainstream audience, it will probably be torture.

Again, movie reviews provide some guidance: Is Angel's Egg an Overlooked Masterpiece?

Also, although I haven't watched it yet (but it came warmly recommended by substance) is Studio Ghibli produced "The Red Turtle" with also very little spoken words and everything opened to interpretation.

Realized that there is only "main language is" in the advanced search and no field for "bilingual" in the drop menus.

Doing it manually also finds:

Mamoru Oshii's first effort wasn't it? He basically ruined Patlabor. It was a hot topic at my anime club in the 90s.

Yep, he's on the bad side of "arty". Pretentious nonsense!

Gits I dislike for other reasons.

Red Turtle.........
After the middle part I was over it, I can usually handle films like this but this one really didn't do it for me.

Have Angels Egg on my radar, watched a few scenes and want to pick it up, also saw they made another film with part in it but can't remember the title now.

According to this post, it's "In The Aftermath" and it might be the reason "Tenshi no Tamago" hasn't been released outside of Japan: someone owns the rights and won't release the original material.

I have Angel's Egg. I've seen it dozens of times. The LD isn't that great but I saw an HD version on YouTube that really brought it to life. Basically, the movie is beutiful and nobody really knew what it looked like until Bluray was invented.

I'm not sure about "underrated" though. I've always held this thing in high regard and so has everyone else I know who likes the cerebral stuff. "Unknown" is closer to the truth, I think.

Btw, regarding that Spirt of Wonder LD. I have this. It's the same exact thing Animego released in the US but with a much nicer jacket. Its that "hybrid" style of release they did in the US. Dual language on one side, nice fat yellow subtitles on the other.

OK I was getting this mixed up with talking head.
There is only a bluray and it seems to be a bootleg, they did just release that aftermath.

I love "Angel's Egg". I have two versions of it on LD (88LX-6 and the Mamoru Oshii Box) as well as the Blu-ray.
I've watched it a dozen times or so, and never get tired of it. Was there ever a dub released of it?
I am a bit reserved when it comes to dubs, as for me personally, a bad dub can ruin the whole thing.
So I usually end up watching japanese with subtitles and don't even check out the dub track.
