so, i had this old three-part OVA on a VHS i recently unearthed, taped it off of "ACTION CHANNEL" 15+ years ago when i had Satellite TV service, and had long forgotten about it, and just how GOOD it actually is, especially for an OVA based of a mere PCE game. jeez, the writing's good, the animation is unbelievable, the soundtrack is SOLID. this is the first series i've come across/rediscovered in a long time that REALLY drives the point home to me that Anime really isn't made anything like it once was... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyber_City_Oedo_808

Of the three episodes, I have the first & third on LD. The first one is the US release by Manga Video, bilingual with closed captions. I may have sat through that dub at one point out of completism, but it can't have been worthwhile. I definitely like it, & want to get my hands on the second episode sometime. The visuals, I would say, are excellent, Kawajiri at the height of his style, razor-sharp & super-slick. The music, soundtrack, & audio are atmospheric, evocative, & well integrated. And the plotting / writing, I would evaluate as "better than OK". So, it's not Giant Robo, but it's very solid.

no, it ain't as strong as original BGC, -hardly anything out there even approaches that OVA- but OEDO does manage to stand on it's own, IMHO, the 1st ep. being a strong start, the second being a minor masterpiece, and the third being comparatively weak, but still decent...

Well I'm another person here who never actually watched it back in the day, will try to check it out at some point on your recommendation.
