I'm making some decisions about where to place my DVDO VP50 in the setup in my new place.

My TV and LD players will be separated by about 4 metres.

I can either:

A - run short lengths of composite/s-video to the DVDO from the players and then a long run (4-5 metres) of RGBHV to the TV or

B - I can do the reverse, place the DVDO directly under the TV with a short RGBHV cable (1 metre) and 4-5 metre runs of composite and s-video to the DVDO from the players.

Which configuration should lose less signal?

RGBHV and Composite are both RCA signal, no ? Then same thing ?
But RGBHV 4 m cable will be really expensive ! (5 cables !) 1 RCA video cable will be cheaper, no ?
Plus, with your DVDO under the TV, you can connect other machines / players, etc... next to your TV.

Hmm, thanks for your post.

I was under the impression RGBHV could carry HD analogue signals?

That's why I make that the final link in the chain.

I like having all my decks on my "rack", which won't fit close to my TV in my new place.

If you must run a longer cable I feel it would be best to run the longer cable last.
Like your A question in your first post.

Run short from player to the DVDO then long to the TV.
You just need to make sure the long one is a very good quality, not expensive in price but quality.

Ok thank you Reino. I think that's what I'll do.

Would you perhaps have any links to readily available, good quality, relatively long RGBHV cables?

No, sorry.

I had to get some stupid long 50' RCA cable for my projector from wallyworld. It was around 16 bucks but ended up being great quality, didn't
mess up the picture quality and also had some great reviews.

I did buy another type of longer cable from ebay and it was garbage with no reviews.
That's the only advice I can help you with.

How long do you need?

Monoprice has 25 foot 5 BNC to 5 BNC RGBHV cables for US$16

Nice! Over 7 metres would be enough, need about 5-6m.

Just hope the picture wouldn't be noticably worse vs the 1.8 metre (10 foot) cable I used in my old setup? I was really please with the picture with that one.

Would the extra length potentially effect the picture or is it going to be more about the quality of the cable? Thanks.

I guess this answers my question but could I ask if others here agree?

It can go above 1080p.

Source: I have an VGA CRT monitor that goes to 2048 x 1536, though I rarely use it at that resolution.

Some people would say the longer cable the worse it is, this may be true but for my situation I can't see any physical difference.

Others may have better eyes that I do, I don't wear glasses but I'm also not a teenager anylonger.
