I don't feel the issue is a bad cable or even a cold solder on the video outputs since if that was the case the bluescreen during stop would be showing the same issue as well. (Forgot to ask as I was writing this; does the video output that is part of the RF mod adapter showing the same issue. Check this before reading the rest of this post and let us know.) I also don't think the issue has anything to do w/ the laser focus or alignment since it clearly can play the disc w/o issue and the sound quality appears normal. That leaves the video circuitry as being the main focus right now. Here is a pic from my player showing the various pots that involve the video section (located on the main board; the one that is on the bottom). If you're willing to experiment, take a picture of these pots on "your machine" before messing with them so you have a reference point as to where they were before you started. The "four" pots that are all circled together I believe involve the focus and tracking and I would "not" touch those (at least for now). What you want to do is have your disc playing and move the other pots I highlighted in either direction about 1/8 a turn and observe if you see a change. If no changes, move it back to their original position and then do the same for the others. This may not do anything but then again you never know. It's a start. If you get no changes at all, I would then start checking for ribbon cables as from time to time they will need to be re-seated if they have any condensation build up that could be affecting the signal going through the wires (it could also be colder solder joints that you can look for @ the plug ends on the board side). Maybe Kurtis could also provide some input since he's definitely more experienced than me on this sort of thing. Good luck
