I found that maybe my problem was du to Rate Match = off. I turned it to ON. We will see.
the evening I'm watching "Heavy Metal". I just saw 2 min of the movie to prepare the lumagen.
Wow ! the image is just fantastic ! Anime looks really great on the lumagen !

Yes, I already forced the "film mode".

Some anime is all wonky, a mix of film and video which may be causing your issues (in that case Auto is your best bet but its not perfect on Lumagen).

Yesterday, Heavy metal on Auto mode. (japanese version). Saw all the movie.
One of the best image I ever seen on LD ! :P

Yes, then "Auto" for Anime, "Film" for movies. And Rate match = on :
perfect result ;) !

Saw this before I was able to post again.

When I owned that disc, an R7G and a top end 3DY Comb filter CRT tv looked a little less than this.

I don't think I can justify buying one of these but the image is really great and from that it looks better than a DVD

That's what we all want, is an analog image better looking than DVD

I have to say that Heavy metal JP version is a really special LD.
I never saw that until now. Animation is also very fluid. First time I saw the open matte version too. It's great !

3 things that DVD version couldn't give me :
- the open matte size,
- the fluidity,
- the texture details of drawing (in DVD version all colors are more "flat" and "uniform")

I will post other screens of movies in the future ;)

So you like the Lumagen better than C2? I might be the only person alive that prefers C2....

I couldn't say that i prefer it for image quality, because I never could use the crystalio in all his potential : couldn't get image through HDMI, too much complicated setting...
But, I can remember that sometimes, with some settings, Crystalio could give me a very very good image. But as each movie asked for different setting, I was tired to change again all settings.
From my experience, lumagen is most friendly to use. You can get a crystal clear image in 5 minutes setting.

DVDOs are really user friendly. Of course they don't have a product that compares the the current high end Lumagens.

totally agree. that’s why i will keep using my edge in the future. with dvdo you can do many things that would cost to much time to do with other units. especially in term of image adjustment : contrast, light filters, positionning... i also have to say that even if lumagen is the best video processor i ever get, the remote control has been a deception for me. it is in cheap plastic with a plastic pannel glue in it. my remote control pannel is sometimes lightly separate from the remote and you can see the glue inside. its a shame for unit that expensive...

lol the label on my remote did exactly the same thing, I just kept on pressing it back down. It seems eventually the glue cured properly or something because it no longer lifts.

screens of the week !
Fantastic planet, LD JP.
It is not the "heavy metal" level, but quite good for a 80's LD !

One of my favorite films, I did sell the LD to get the DVD.
Love all of those films, Time Masters and Gandahar.

The LD looks great, a little soft in some areas but as you say, I agree, its one of those earlier LDs.

oh rein-o ! You have good taste !
I love time masters too !
I just noticed that Gandahar name in US was "Light Years", and only way to get the LD version is to search this name.
I'd love to test the LD, but it's expensive for now on ebay...
I will post capture of Time Masters in the future !

Please do, I didn't know about Time Masters until I saw the PAL DVDs which I own.

I think that's the best one from a storyline but all 3 are great.

Knew about Light Years, story isn't changed as much in the USA dubbing but its not worth it on US LD.

I first learned about René Laloux about 5-6 years ago when I watched "La prisonnière" at a short film festival
and wow, I fell in love with it
I did watch all 3 films and most of the shorts, yet La prisonnière still I think it's something very unique and possibly my favorite

do you know if there is a short film collection on DVD/BD ?
