Hi,
I have a Pioneer LD-S9, a japanese player, and I have to use it here in Italy.
Let's say that I accidentally used a Samsonite Travel adapter which is not a converter from 100V to 230V so the player now doesn't work at all...it looks like dead even if I am now using a correct 100V to 230V and viceversa converter that I have been using for the last 10 years with a japanese Mixer without any fault.
I called a friend of mine that said that the different voltage blew out the fuse and there should be no damage to any part of the player.
Is that true?
If it does, can I just change the fuse and it will work properly?
What kind of fuse do I have to use and where can I find it?

Thanks a lot for your support and contribute.

If you take the top off (there will be two side panels that come off separate from the top) the power supply and fuse will be easy to access. The location is obvious to the left of the tray when facing the player (right where the cord enters the player). If that fuse is blown there is your issue, if not I would not know where to go from there.

thanks a lot.
Do you think it could be the fuse or something else?
Is it a common fuse or a specific model designed for this LD player?
Thanks again

I don't honestly know what else it could be if not the fuse but that is simple enough to check.

I suppose that is what fuse does...in case of wrong voltage in order to protect the player and avoid any other damage.

Worst case is you fried the entire power board and need to replace capacitors etc.
Hopefully its just the fuse and it will work again, but that's the first step.

I've never done that with LD players but I have done that in the past and fried stuff, not as expensive and I just tossed it rather than looking into fixing.

There are half a dozen fuses on the power supply board. Only 1 of them is a typical glass fuse, with the rest of them looking like resistors. It could literally be any of them, or more than 1. You'll need to remove the board and test each fuse with a multi-meter.

Omg :(
I thought the fuse related to a voltage issue was only the one close to the power cable. You say it could be more than fuse in different parts of the board not easy to reach.

I gather you mean you are taking your 230 to to the Japan 100VAC power. The fuse will only blow if there is serious over current to the players. If you put in voltage higher than normal the unswitched ever +5VDC that goes to the front panel to sense power on selection could have been too high or a power supply component could have failed. Both those conditions can be do without blowing the fuse. The fuse is more for removing the players from your house circuit if a major failure occurs.

So you are saying I have to expect a major damage more than simply a blown fuse?

I would say you would have to debug the switching power supply.

Yesterday night we had the chance to inspect the player and we found the fuse close to power cable blown.
Fingers crossed it was just the fuse and once we replace it the player works fine.

While the others above are correct I don't have any knowledge repairing LD players but if they are like other electronics then I do hope its the fuse at the PSU

Thought you have already replaced the fuse and it didn't help. Glad you got it working.

Happy ending on this story.
Changed the fuse and now the player works fine!
