Here is what it looks like inside - https://youtu.be/PTQ7g4f-H0w

Here is a japanese (correction chinese) blog comparing it to LD-S2 (thanks to audioboyz1973) - http://blog.renren.com/share/241229394/8049888415/0

In limited testing I would say it's a pretty amazing player, need more seat time to really get a feel for it.

Nice looking player.

Do you think they kept the audio and video boards so far apart to try to cut down on interference?

The S2 has boards crammed really tight inside the unit, and so does the X0. The difference is where they are located, How you design the signal paths within the printed wiring board and all the extra shielding added between boards. This is why you cannot take a CLD-99 or even the CLD-97 and make them look as good as the S2. The power supplies and the board layouts limit how good you can make a player look. The Video and Audio on opposite sides like this Kenwood has does help as long as there is separate power supplies and There is not enough detail to know for sure.

With that said Kenwood’s US models were mainly Pioneer re-badged units but this does not look like any Pioneer unit I’ve seen. I saw some pictures with Philips components used but it doesn’t look like any Philips player Ive seen.

All the older players have better power designs than the new ones which I was told that when the dollar verses Yen took a hit the Japanese companies had to adapt how to cut costs to manufacture products. This Kenwood being an older unit should be the better designs but each has their own opinion how good players are. Until I would see one I would not want to compare it to the S2 or X0.

It does look like Kenwood was trying to make a nice player.

We are kind of surmising that accuphase had a hand in building this, here is info on the matching CD player -http://www.thevintageknob.org/kenwood-L-D1.html

In my setup I can get my Runco to match the Kenwood low noise level using Mode 1 DNR (this matches no NR on the Kenwood). It takes very little NR (Faroudja low) on my Crystalio II to remove whatever little noise the Kenwood has.

Note this is all early testing, I need lots more time to really form a solid opinion.

Very cool. Thanks for posting this as well as Runco LJR II video. I like seeing the internals of these players.

Actually the mistake was originally mine, repeated onto pbiancardi. Now I look at it properly they're clearly not Japanese characters. Du-Oh!

Originally I found that link a while back when was feeling a bit nostalgic and thinking about picking one of these up.

About 25 years ago was working for Alberts Hi-Fi here in Perth and we had one of these brand new in the store. Arena distributors were under the same ownership (and roof) and were the official importers for both Kenwood and Accuphase at the time. I was told the same about the Kenwood/Accuphase partnership on this particular series. Kind of makes sense given the historical association of the two companies. Accuphase (aka Kensonic Laboratories) was founded by an ex-Kenwood engineer. As I understand it that association is why Arena held the distributorship for both.

Ultimately didn't get one after deciding that I wasn't going to spend any more money on players without Muse/Hi-Vision capability given the collection sitting here.

Garbage collectors??
Is this some type of inside joke or a mistake?? Surely not meant for Mimy.

So please clarify this post.
Thanks,

Thanks,

It's how google translates part of the chinese review (see first post), we can't really get a handle on what the reviewer is saying because the translation is so bad.

Another example -

"LD-X1 has high resolution and the picture looks like particles. Sense, far-sighted is very clear, color neutral is light; KENWOOD LVD-Z1 picture is delicate and

bright, but the layering is a little bit worse; the sound aspect is much better than ordinary LD, real, natural, balanced, but compared with high-end CD

player there are gaps, "

After it came up as Chinese I quickly closed it and did a virus scan.

Not worth any risk for me

It seems the translation works far better if you cut and paste it into google translate.

Rein-o paranoid much? If poo-bear cares that much about my internet access he's just going to love some of the p0rn sites I visit...

No idea why I was getting a bit of crosstalk at the beginning of the disc but the tilt adjustment is easy to get to (which BTW the service manual tells you to do with a disc playing "minimize the crosstalk on the screen").
