You're only stupid if you don't do your research first and choose to spend your money before you even know what you're getting yourself into.

By the way, does a MUSE decoder with a built-in LD+G decoder exist?

Well I am doing my research, I'm asking questions aren't I?

Besides, I'm not even in the business of buying one.

HLD-X0 first, single-sided, in 1995.
HLD-X9 later, double-sided, in 1996.

X9 lasted longer though so you can potentially find one made in 2000.

Actually production continued until 2002 for x9 but they made something like 50 player in that year.

1999 was the last year x0 was manufactured. They made a total of 1500 units between 1995 and 1999. I believe something like 1350 were made in 1995 and 1996.

Does it have an hour meter? I ask because I’d be way more interested in that than five years either way on something 20 years old.

Interesting, my cheapy projector has one, would have been cool to have such a device of some type on LD players but I think they were too old???

I do remember that arcade games had it but once you unplugged them you lost that, so you had to add some type of battery inside the machine to keep some
power to the board to keep such info.

Nicolas Santini's old site quotes May 2002 as the last X9 production.

I'd be curious / worried if previous owner(s) played a lot of Muse discs since I assume that the faster RPMs could **potentially** cause more wear and tear than standard LDs.

Perhaps on the spindle motor and bearings to a small degree, oh and the rubber grip ring too, but don't see how beyond that.

No.

W-VHS does not decode or record a muse signal.

Thank you for a prompt respond.
I do not want to argue with you but:

W-VHS allowed home recording of Hi-Vision programmes.

Yes it allowed you to record them in (low bandwidth for HD) 1035i from the component video output of a muse decoder. W-VHS decks do not record or decode the muse signal.

Try this wiki page instead https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W-VHS or better still try the Japanese version which is much more informative https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/W-VHS

Edit: while I understand W-VHS is capable of 1035i as per the HD spec of the time, if we're talking a signal that has undergone muse compression then it would be 1032i (the next lower multiple of four).

I don't know so much about MUSE, but on this tape recorder, there is clearly a MUSE in (black) and a MUSE out (Green blue red). It's also clearly written in japanese "MUSE Decoder".

At the bottom there is a component (Green, Blue Red) 'HD" input (入力) (which accepts the component output from the Muse decoder and is so labelled). There is also a component "HD" output (出力) to the right. There are of course matching audio connectors.

The black connectors at the top are for AFC input (not a muse signal input) and the other is an output. I'm not familiar with these additional black connectors on Japanese VCR's, which there are some for BS
decoders as well. Perhaps someone more familiar with the Japanese BS system and VCR's of the era can explain them.

But trust me; W-VHS does not record a Muse signal on the tape and the VCR does not have a Muse decoder built in.
