By the way, does a MUSE decoder with a built-in LD+G decoder exist? No offense but this is ironic. You said do your own research and asked if any muse decoder has ldg built in in the same post but no decoder with ldg i am afraid.

Actually production continued until 2002 for x9 but they made something like 50 player in that year. 1999 was the last year x0 was manufactured. They made a total of 1500 units between 1995 and 1999. I believe something like 1350 were made in 1995 and 1996.

Perhaps on the spindle motor and bearings to a small degree, oh and the rubber grip ring too, but don't see how beyond that.

Yes it allowed you to record them in (low bandwidth for HD) 1035i from the component video output of a muse decoder. W-VHS decks do not record or decode the muse signal. Try this wiki page instead https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W-VHS or better still try the Japanese version which is much more informative https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/W-VHSEdit: while I understand W-VHS is capable of 1035i as per the HD spec of the time, if we're talking a signal that has undergone muse compression then it would be 1032i (the next lower multiple of four).

mimylovesjapan wrote: I don't know so much about MUSE, but on this tape recorder, there is clearly a MUSE in (black) and a MUSE out (Green blue red). It's also clearly written in japanese "MUSE Decoder". At the bottom there is a component (Green, Blue Red) 'HD" input (入力) (which accepts the component output from the Muse decoder and is so labelled). There is also a component "HD" output (出力) to the right. There are of course matching audio connectors. The black connectors at the top are for AFC input (not a muse signal input) and the other is an output. I'm not familiar with these additional black connectors on Japanese VCR's, which there are some for BS decoders as well. Perhaps someone more familiar with the Japanese BS system and VCR's of the era can explain them. But trust me; W-VHS does not record a Muse signal on the tape and the VCR does not have a Muse decoder built in.
