I wouldn't say it worth that money.
It's quite expensive for just beautiful images. And for 200$ maybe a Edge would do 70% of the work of a lumagen.
But I'm happy to get good pictures to do what I love : doing reviews and share my experience of cinema with beautiful screens.
If I can still use it like this next 10 years without issue, then yes it will be able to say it's worth !

I know I'm joking about people that don't understand it's worth what it costs.

Almost everything in his setup is as good as it can possibly get. It’s not just the 2144.

They look nice but I'm still more impressed with the CRT image I get with my setup. I've definitely seen more impressive grabs with Lumagen too. Maybe it's the films?

5th element is way too Euro for me to enjoy

They are very nice. I am impressed. I’m not thanking any specific piece of gear here though, that’s all. Also, my assumption is that the real greatness of 2144 has to be seen in motion to appreciate and that’s not possible for me personally so I’m not going to toot it’s horn for stills.

A really great still is hard to photograph on LD but if you have the skill it doesn’t even take particularly great AV gear.

You can’t send the LD experience over the Internet. That’s one of my favorite things about it. I watch these sorts of threads and also contribute to them but I also know you pretty much have to be at a person’s house to know what their setup really looks and sounds in action.

This week is special ! It's christmas !
I didn't have time to do any capture, but I created a new category on my webpage about a french magazine : Les Années Laser".
You will find there some interresting scans of interesting articles about LD movies or AV units.
Here is the link :
https://retro-visual.jimdo.com/laserdis ... ees-laser/
I did scans of number 28 only for now.
Here are some interresting pages :

About a Denon AC-3 amp (AVP-A1) :

A Pioneer CD player/writer (PDR-05):

I have that Denon AVP-A1 and the needed power amps.
It's a very nice unit.
Although I have to say, I also really liked my Pioneer VSX-908
and I would dare say it was the better sounding one compared
to the Denon. But then it broke while still being covered by warranty
and so I got rid of the Pioneer.

They are both really old now however AVC-A1 is slightly newer. AVC-A1D is the DTS revisioned version.

AVC/AVP-A1 has 20 bit burr brown pcm1702/ one per ch. This is the audio dac in X9/X0 as well. No 6ch external input so limited to Dolby Digital AC-3 only.

AVC-A1D has 24 bit burr brown pcm1704/one per ch. Updated version of the above. Also has the Denon proprietary upsampling (alpha processing). Has built in DTS decoder, 6ch and a separate 8ch external inputs. Technically you can run a Blu-ray disc player with 7.1 analog outputs.

Amp section are far superior on the P model as they are all separate mono amps. Each ch has it’s own power supply.

Sound is typical Denon on all of them. Tight fast bass but lacks a bit depth. Imaging is spot on both staging is narrow and uninvolved. Highs have air but maybe a bit harsh on the wrong set of speakers.

At this year it’s only competition was the Yamaha DSP-A1 which is also legendary now. Denon was significantly more expensive. This is the era Pioneer was not regarded highly in home a/v. Onkyo was coming up as cheaper alternative. Marantz and Harman didn’t have anything comparable. Technics were literally on their last legs. Denon dominated all the way up to mid 2000s.

You can find others scan here :
https://retro-visual.jimdo.com/laserdis ... -laser/33/

A very funny commercial about CLD D925 (european player)
The translation is : "To be demanding, it's contenting yourself with the best available."
The dog is so cute ^^
