All of the players I suggested above have digital audio. You have to get pretty old before they don't have that. The 3070 and 3080 are both dual side players and can be had cheap if you keep an eye out. Check out the player reviews section of the forum. Tasuke will vouch for the 3030, rein-o for the 3070 and yours truly for the 3080.

BTW, if you're willing to spend a little more than practically as little as possible I have a 900U w/ AC-3 that could use a good home. It currently sits on a shelf in my basement :P

IMO it's just like reel changes and nothing is worse than waiting for my screwy 702 to hit black so I can jump up super fast a run to hit eject before the auto-flip jams and I have to unplug and reset.

I'm having this issue as well on a newly acquired 702. It won't auto flip. Seems like either the ribbon cable is getting caught or that the white plastic switch that locks when the laser flips doesn't quite get pushed all the way over (to the right) to lock into place.

The laser turns over about 90% then fails to grab the upper track or rail, gets stuck and the motor grinds until I unplug and reset power.

Otherwise this player is a really nice player!

Side question: The loading belt is harder to get to than on other players I've encountered. Is there an easy way to replace the belt?

Thanks!

I'm not intimately familiar with the inner workings of the CLD-D702, but if it is anything like the CLD-59, where the pickup flips upside down (but doesn't change orientation - i.e. the rails are on the same side of the player for both A & B), the plastic "C" that serves as the pickup rail when it is flipping over, fits into a little groove on the lead-in to the upper rail. If the u-turn rail has popped out of place, the pickup will jam trying to attach to the top rail and you'll get the tracking gear grind on the stationary track. Turning off the player to reset will simply return the pickup to the start of side A at power-up.

Anyway, as long as the parts are not physically broken, you can reset the "U" turn rail into the correct position.

It’s the loading belt causing the auto reverse to jam as well. The loading mechanism is not just for moving the tray but also to make slight adjustments to the tilt of the carriage during side change.

These players are very easy to replace the belt. Remove the cover and eject the tray. You will easily see the belt on the left front side.

He's not concerned about the actual replacing of the belt, it's acquiring the new belt to replace it with.

It's a 3.5" belt. Any SBS3.5 will work.

That wasn't very clear to me even after re-reading the post; still sounds like a question about "how" to replace the belt.

But oh well...

I ordered new belts. These are Alpha turn players so they don't have the "C" track like the Gamma turn players or the "U" like the Epsilon players. This one rotates/inverts the laser pickup on a circular mechanism in the rear (very similar to the "C" track.

No, now its clear to me that the belt is the issue here. I wasn't aware it was for anything more than the tray but have learned that it actually assists in the auto reverse function. So new belts on the way (PEB1013)...

There are a few posts here that have been helpful, so I'd like to thank tgotr, ldfan, krbahr, sdraper, and anyone else who's posted about this issue. Thank you!

As far as the belt itself, yes I was asking about how to actually get to it easily. I have a couple 406's, and a 704 and those are pretty easy to get to once you remove the tray. On these players however, there is a big aluminum piece that doesn't allow access to the belt from the top. I can see it there on the right hand side when the cover is off and the tray open but I'm not sure about removing the tray completely on these as they seem different. I don't see the same clips that you pinch to release the tray.

Once I get the belts in hand I'll see how difficult it is to get it on there and hopefully that fixes it!

Ok.... Looks like I wasn't very clear on some aspects of changing the belt on an Alpha Turn based LD player. Here are some pics that will hopefully enlighten from my Pioneer, CLD-D701....

Image of the player w/ top off and the tray ejected
Image

Now a picture of the clamper assembly removed as this part will get in the way to reaching the loading belt. You will just need to remove four screws to separate it from the player
Image

Now it's easy to reach the belt as circled in red. Make sure to clean the gears with alcohol before installing the new belt as any leftover residuals of the old belt can cause slippage.
Image

As you re-install the clamper assembly after belt replacement, make sure the following peg goes back into the plastic slider
Image

Hope this helps.

Thanks, super clear now ;) Photos are great!

I didn't want to remove more than necessary. Easy enough and once my belts arrive this will help make it easier.

UPDATE: The new belt came in and was easy to install thanks to this visual tutorial.

Problem has been completely resolved and this is now a very nice player indeed!

Thanks again for the advice.

And I was today years old when I learned that the D702 is just the US version of D925.

Uhhh... maybe not. :wtf:

The D925 is a number of years newer than the D702. Maybe you mean the D760 is equivalent to the D702?

That's wrong too, it's D790 that's the North American version of D925.

Thanks for making me not feel alone in foolishness.

WOW! I need to do this to my 702 then!

So the replacement belt is any 3.5 one? Is there a recommended place to order them?

Not worth a separate thread, but I just procured a CLD-D701. Looks pretty much identical to the 702 though it doesn't have a coax out.

Tested it out last night, works great! My first 'disc-flip' .

OTOH, the provided remote does not work, but I have a Harmony universal which supposedly accepts older LD device codes.

Yeah, Harmony will do Play, Skip, etc. on almost any Pioneer. Good luck on Open/Eject or Audio button support though. Display probably works.

a quick note on Harmony remotes that they are all different so you would have to research what features you want to use on your LD player and get which HR model is more advance and possibly will work with all the features you want but still for some players I feel like I need to the OG remote since my harmony haven't helped much on some settings which I can't change. I have yet to buy the really advance one [the high end model ] so that one would might help the best for all y equipment rather than the ones I have used.
