5 years ago, a representative of japanese national TV NHK came to my home to ask me to pay for TV licence. He stayed for 2 hours to argue that I had to pay it. I explained him that for philosophical reasons I never watch TV, and I will never pay for a pseudo-cultural channel, tool of the government. He never let it pass, and started to be agressive. He punched a lot on my door saying that everyone pays it, and he will not go out if I don't sign his paper. My family was here, then I didn't want to make them unconfortable. I signed. 1 week after, I search on internet how to cancel the contract, and to not pay NHK legally. I called them, wrote them a letter to explain my rights. In my house, I cut all the TV cables from the wall, and sealed them into the wall. I also changed my phone to get a phone "unable to use TV" as NHK says also that you need to pay if your phone can difuse TV. Then, no smart phone for me. (don't like smartphone, then it's OK !) Just a little phone 10 years old with no options. Finally, I was aproved by NHK to not pay the TV licence.

Your French spirit eventually crushed NHK’s will in a way few nihonjin ever could.

We don't realize how lucky we are here in the USA that we don't HAVE to pay for over the air TV and we can get it for free without some person coming to our door asking for more tax money. True, but then NHK and BBC have given infinitely more than PBS has. PBS/NPR/PRI is like a high school newspaper compared to BBC.

Haven't hooked it up yet, but I'll let you know how it is for LD. It's one of the later ones after Pioneer stopped manufacturing their own plasma screens and OEM'd from Panasonic. Truthfully, I don't think that will be too much of an issue. My current display is a Panasonic Plasma and LD looks great on it. Finally hooked up the 60" Kuro. Works AMAZINGLY for LD. I mean seriously, LD looks better on this than any of the CRT WEGAs I've owned. I have my Runco hooked up just through composite: I don't really see the need to need any extra scaling. I'm more than happy with just a composite connection. Odd thing is, with the Snell & Wilcox test pattern on Video Essentials, the comb filter in this Kuro definitely performs better than the comb filter on my previous Panasonic Plasma (though both are 3D adaptive comb filters.) However, I'm noticing a little more cross-color artifacting LD images on the Kuro than I did on the Panasonic. It could be just that since this one has a native resolution of 1920x1080p while the Panasonic had a native resolution of 1366x768 that the higher resolution makes it more noticeable. Still, I can't complain about this picture. It's just kick a** for both LD and blu-ray. If only they made 4K plasmas!!!! PS: I do have a Sony 4K that I have waiting in the works when this Kuro dies.
