Does anyone have any info on the Pioneer CLD-1950 other than what's on the Laserdisc UK site here: http://www.laserdiscarchive.co.uk/laser ... d-1950.htmUnfortunately that page concentrates on a modification to the player, to add AC3 sound, and doesn't say what the player is like in other respects. What I particularly want to know is if the picture quality and sound are good, also if it will play PAL discs that only have analog audio - some later players dropped this capability and will only play PAL discs with digital sound.

the cld-1950 is a great player. Not high end looking like a Japanese player but easy to maintain if needed. Good video quality like a cld-2950. it has that great analoge look I've owned a few 2950's over the years. To me, the 1950 is the same like a 2950 without dual side play! in 1995 a shop in Belgium upgraded my 1950 with ac-3 rf output. It never let me down. it's a great cd transport It has S-video out Optical digital out (dts) Composite out 2 x scart (non S-video) The rf upgrade was done by Home Theatre Antwerp. A great shop at the time that is. No autoreverse (but hey, it can't break either) Sold it since I aquired way too many players trough the years.

Both times the price went up over the price I intended to enter faster than I could press the enter button. I think I am going to have to resign myself to the fact that there are serious collectors out there with MUCH bigger pockets than mine, and just hope that one turns up in a street market / boot fair / whatever at a price I can afford. Seems like someone had already laid in a higher maxmium bid you could not reach. I have run into those a couple of times. Could not understand how people could quickly outbid in a matter of seconds. Then I learned about maximum bid....... Lost many great auctions because of this, lessons learned.

They are well built machines that produce better picture quality than all of the newer European models I've seen that came after. Only real downsides are they don't have digital memory for pausing CLV discs, have slow side change and most collectors want them so prices tend to be higher than buying a used 925 or 909 or 919 machines.

Both went around the £70 mark (about $133) - that isn't incredibly expensive, I know, but they were both buyer collect or courier which adds at least £10-£15, and I only bought my last player a couple of months ago; the only reason I want to change it is that it turned out to be a model that didn't support the early analog-only PAL discs, which means that I can no longer play a few discs. I've already replaced most of them with DVDs, but there are a few I can't replace. To be honest, I'd sooner buy a good industrial laserdisc player provided it played analog diss - I'm not worried about automatic side changing, and they're much more reliable. I was mad to sell my CLD-V2300!
