Not explicitly a movie, but I wish there was more 80's Eurodisco on LD. Although I don't think a lot of the songs I like even have music videos, but there isn't even one Modern Talking title!

Here's another that inexplicably never got an NTSC relelase--Animalympics

Watched this so many times on HBO back in the day when I was a littlin'. Unfortunately, while it was released on LD in some PAL territories, it never got a US or Japan release.

It was released on R1 DVD last year, but from some reviews on Amazon, it's not much of an upgrade over the VHS releases. So it might just be sourced from a VHS tape.

Figures it'd be an analog only release.

Could've bought myself a copy!

Actually, I'd have loved to see Star Wars episode II and III on LD so that we could have all the Star Wars movies on Laserdisc.

I have a slightly more realistic wish of seeing them release those two in the big sleeve editions so you could at least stick 'em between your Episode I and Episode IV laserdiscs

Life is easier as a Star Wars fan when you disregard everything after 1983

"Let's Groove" by Earth Wind and Fire. The 1981 music video is chock full of analog video effects by Ron Hays/Image West, and would be great to have on LD.

Subtitled versions for animes that came out on LD would've been great though, I would have bought the entire City Hunter series if they were subtitled.

Or you buy a genlock and enjoy your japanese LD's with subtitles of your choice.
Just search for "genlock" on this forum if you want to know more about this topic.

Here's another one that should have gotten an LD release...

...saw that several times on cable TV when I was young (probably warped my young, impressionable mind beyond repair, but whatever.) I didn't get all the humor back then nor all the high profile actors being in the movie, but enjoyed it none the less.

I think it’s sourced from broadcast tape, which often looks worse than the best VHS when it’s from the 70s. I think a lot of 70s rerun TV is trapped in this state. We probably only have reruns to thank for there being any trace of the show at all. I’m pretty sure some of the shows from Hanna Barbarra and Filmation that didn’t get rerun are lost or else they would have released them on home video in some way by now. The tapes made for Turner’s “Super Station WTBS” might still be what we’re watching now. The Scooby Doo DVDs certainly look this way. I wouldn’t care to see them on Blu-ray unless they found a print.

It’s sort of like, in the silent world, making due with an inferior 16mm copy when the original nitrate was thrown in the trash in 1930. Of course, even 16mm would be an improvement for these Hanna Barbara shows. You can see how the tape heads were misaligned and other analog interference patterns and then that’s on top of DVD artifacting from a low bit rate and an authoring job that occasionally crashes the audio on my Sony Blu-ray player. Pretty underwhelming to say the least. As a huge animation fan in general, sure, I know Scooby Doo sucks and always did but there is a charm to the first era and it’s really $$$ important to Hanna Barbarra historically. You’d think they’d give it a better release.

Koala Boy Kokki

Sure, it’s not high art, but when it was on Nickelodeon every Saturday I didnt know that I should have been taping it if I ever wanted to see it again. It’s for little kids and I was already way too old for it when it came out but I really like the animation a lot and it would be great for my kid now. From what I can see there is a US VHS of a few eps and maybe a JP one but no giant LD box or anything. Potentially it’s lost.

I also hear that it was the last show Topcraft worked on before Nausicaa and then being restructured into Ghibli.

Not a significant movie, but one I enjoyed growing up is an 80s movie called Endangered Species. I'm sure I've mentioned it before at some point. It's a fun, albeit odd movie, that kind of has an X-files feel to it. It was released on VHS and CED, but skipped laserdisc for some reason. It got a DVD release, but I haven't seen it. I believe it was one of those, DVD-R, from the vault kind of deals. Oh well.

Now that I have the recently released Mighty Orbots DVD I was most disappointed to see that it’s a “Warner Archive”, a burn in other words. The master is obviously not new either. I guess I’m glad this FINALLY came out but they could hardly have done a worse job of it. No pilot film either.

I would much rather have an LD.

I loved this as well when it was shown as you say on HBO. I can't remember much on what channels had what.

As for wishing something was on LaserDisc probably anything that never made it to VHS or even DVD that is stuck on bad quality rips on youtube.

Like most importantly Fluppy Dogs which I watched the very day it was shown on ABC and was hoping for a series which never happened. If Disney releases this on BD and all of Gargoyles on BD as well I just might forgive them for all their idiocy and whatever else. (giving the world Britney and Hilary was wonderful but Miley seriously?)

Damn, that sucks. Hate that Warner Archive crap.

RE sourcing from tapes and/or LD I have my suspicions with the Nadia Secret of Blue Water BD. But maybe I am just crazy idk. First 4 episodes did not wow me with video quality and I am accounting for the age of the source material. Plenty of proper done older anime BDs look absolutely stunning.
