I was looking at getting a Blackmagic Design Intensity but I was wondering what others might have experience with and what is good or not.
Also would I benefit from adding a DVDR player through the chain? Ie LD player > DVDR > scaler > capture device.
For scalers atm I have: Silicon Optix IA100, DVDO VP30 w/ ABT102, DVDO VP50Pro, DVDO Duo and a Lumagen VisionPro HDP that badly needs calibration. I was thinking the Duo would be the best bet but I really don't want to unhook it from where it is currently hooked up.
Advice is welcomed. TIA.

I hate to be the forum language lawyer but Laserdiscs are not “ripped” they are recorded or captured, please.
I made that by playing my CLD-99 into my DVD recorder and then dragging the VOBs into YouTube. The recorders HDMI output is even better than the DVDs it makes so I’ve been meaning to try capturing the HDMI with my Elgato doodad but these look so good I guess I haven’t bothered.
Considering how bad DVD often is with action that one turned out pretty well. I use the highest setttings which I think will only put one hour on a DVD-R.

I've only ever done straight from LD to DVD-R but that was years ago. Like I posted in another thread if you are doing things like Song of The South make sure you are running the correct audio. I had both L and R connected to the recorder and picked up both Japanese and English. You can select the correct channel and then all will be fine with both red and white connected.
I use to use a LiteOn DVD recorder but then I have my JVC DVHS and connect that to a AverMedia Live Gamer Portable then to my Macbook or Mac Pro Classic
Is it me or did Evangelion rip off of Gundam around 4.30. That blue robot sure does seem to have that "Angel" look to it with those arms.
A) Nah, I’d say they were inspired by flat segmented insects I would guess, the animation anyway. The design is by the same guy that does other insect looking MS (Izabuchi) like the Sazabi. If it looks most like anything it’s the Laputa robot which itself originally appeared in a Lupin III episode Miyazaki directed. In general this robot blends in very well with the goofy aquatic Zeon stuff seen in the OG series. After Zeta and ZZ, all that prototype transforming newtype ace stuff, this was a conscious effort to update OG Gundam without disrespecting it since they were going back in time.
and
B) Gundam 0080 Mecha design is highly derivative of Patlabor which was the hot new kid on the block so nobody there would complain. The Kampher is straight out of the Headgear school.

Mine is a JVC DR-MV150B if that matters to anyone, circa 2009. Its not very impressive looking hardware-wise but the VCR section has the best output of anything I've ever had (not that I've had a lot of VCRs) and its via HDMI. Its extremely handy if you're like me and you make copies of LDs for people on occasion. Its just perfect for that.

Should have my capture card tomorrow, will be interesting to compare. I'd think it would produce a better result.
Also I doubt I am going to use it for this purpose but I did finally get a serial adapter I needed to remote control my Lumagen with an old Laptop. I tinkered with the settings and it's wonderful. So now I know I can easily sink down the cost for a remote. I didn't want to do that if there was a chance the unit was just bad.
