Before you head to the movies and I hope you pick your movie theater well for this one, what are the complimentary films to get you in the mood? I have a short list here.

1- Moroder’s Metropolis
2- Highlander
3- Flash Gordon
4-...

I’d just listen to a lot of Queen first. After that I might realize the movie would never be as good as staying home and listening to even more Queen.

To hijack this thread. I have searched and can't seem to find any other version of the Flash Gordon soundtrack other than with film clips.

Is that the case?? I bought the soundtrack a few years ago and was very disappointed about that.

Sounds like it's the same case as it is with Vangelis' Blade Runner; the only releases out there without the dialogue mixed into the music are bootlegs.

Yeah, seen those but can't justify spending that much on a boot.

Queen seemed to like incorporating movies they provided music for in the songs.

Got the same thing for "Gimme The Prize" where there probably isn't a version of that song without interspliced clips from Highlander in it.

Also speaking of Highlander and Queen, is there an LD out that has the music video for "Princes of the Universe"?

I have to imagine that since there are clips from the movie therein, that keeps it from being included in many of Queen's video collections, but has it appeared anywhere else?

In the 60s and 70s this was normal. I actually really like the way they did Bladerunner but then that’s Bladerunner. When you hear it done for...let’s say the OST for the 1973 TV movie Sunshine it is extremely tiring after the first listen. Back then though with no VCRs people were more likely to appreciate it. It would have been the only way to hear movie dialog at all.

To be clear, I’d like an official Bladerunner OST that was twice as long as what they gave us but I’d still listen to the one with dialog. It’s been one of my favorite nap time albums since it came out on CD. Now I have the DSD version. Still dreaming of incept dates...

Btw, BEFORE that version of the Blade Runner OST which came out a decade after the film where was only this weird symphonic cover version of it for sale so I was extremely glad for the 1993 one (or whenever it hit CD). It’s amazing how messed up the recording industry is sometimes. How can rights to some existing music that isn’t making money for anyone be more expensive or difficult to get/sell than hiring a guy to wrangle 80 more musicians to play new symphonic variations on the original? Weird.

The worst thing about the Flash OST is the remix version of the theme found on the CD reissue. Horrendous. Not as bad as Born in the USA 12” remixes (a top ten worst track ever) but very very bad.

Also, FWIW, I skipped Bohemian Rhapsody. It looked like Mama Mia! for boys and now that they are taking about a sequel I guess that’s a pretty apt association. Anyone who remembers the 90s remembers the MASSIVE revival of both Queen and ABBA at almost the same time. It was huge in the US and twice as big in the UK. If they wanted it to not seem like such a cash in they should have MADE THE MUSTACHE MORE CHRONOLOGICALLY ACCURATE. I mean, come on. I’m not even really a Queen fan and that stuff really sticks out. If you made a movie about Michael Jackson and you showed him with the glove on Soul Train in 1976 nobody would accept that sort of crap.

I actually didn't like this movie all that much. It's not bad but not great either. I don't think Malek did a good job portraying Freddie. In the first half of the movie, he was similar to Mr Robot and the second half felt more like Freddie Mercury. The actors did much better for their roles.

As a Queen fan since way back, I have to say that this movie was awful, all wrong, out of time, you name it. According to the movie, We Will Rock You was done in the early 80's, Fat Bottomed Girls was the early 70's and Another One Bites The Dust was just being conceived in 1982, 2 years after its release. Horrible film....a disgrace to Queen and Freddie.

There are quite a number of QUEEN / Freddie Mercury fans who find this movie hard to stomach for a number of reasons.

It could have been so much better.
