Late last year I bought a DVDO MM701, complete with original box, pristine remote control, user manual, rack mounts, cables, etc.
Like new condition with minor visible flaws, probably low hours. I got a good auction price for it!
Been renovating my current setup and I have only played a handful of laserdiscs through it, but it is a noticeable upgrade.
Also bought a HDV-camera for digitizing of dv-tapes.

Picked up some Kung Fu films on DVD.
These things are DIRT cheap and have an OK transfer, don't expect anything better than VHS sometimes as they transfer the VHS to DVD sometimes

But it makes me feel like Saturday or Sunday where they played Kung Fu all day long. Now I can play it all day long HAHAHAHAHA

Cool, they used to play em usually on Saturday night TV here with subtitles.

The last few years I've picked up a lot of Fortune Star DVD releases, they're pretty nice and usually very good transfers. The price is about $10-$15 a movie. I'd recommend em if you're not getting those.

Thanks, most of these are dubbed and cheap, titled martial arts essentials.

I have some Bruce Lee by Fortune Star and am just sticking with a cheap price point right now

The transfers are really hit and miss for some of these, some are widescreen with perfect transfers but dubbed, some of the ones I used to pickup in Chinatown
were Chinese releases and they did have English subs but not as much fun as the horrible dubbing, I even recognize the voices from the dubbed Macross
movie

The majority of my Kung Fu titles are on DVD collections where the movies are far less than $1 each. If I see something I like I’ll hunt down a better version. This goes for all kinds of huge cut rate DVD collections, not just martial arts stuff.

I usually try to buy the best possible version whenever I buy movies so it's unlikely I'll ever touch a budget release, even for a bad movie (unless, of course, it's the ONLY release). I'm STILL waiting for some kind of a subtitled release of Sonny Chiba's Karate Warriors since it's supposed to be some sort of a sequel to Street Fighter.

They used to have budget dollar stores in the city and I would buy all the Kung Fu discs for a buck a piece.
Horrible transfers but they are good enough to watch some of this crap.
Not all chop sockie films are worth it, even a buck was too much.

I don't know which ones I would actually pay to see the film in a nice presentation other than the official ones that everybody knows.

Just watched one yesterday, it was a drunken master Rat Face, and it was a sequel to another one that I saw.
The dubbing was HORRIBLE but funny, if I had to watch this with subtitles it wouldn't have been as funny.
Also P/S but its not like you are missing much watching a woman chase down a drunk red nosed guy with large teeth who is a master at martial arts.

I recently took a chance and bought one of these devices:

Image

Captures HD video from either HDMI or Component video source straight to a USB flash drive. Mainly used for capturing video game footage (for Twitch or Youtube users I suppose.)

Useful for me as I don't have traditional cable TV. I have Playstation VUE. But for whatever reason, Sony made it impossible to record the programming you get from their service to another traditional recording device like a VCR or DVD Recorder (kinda like a new fangled macrovision or DCS.)

Can't use it with the PS4, but I can use it with the PS3 through component or with a laptop with an HDMI output.

I don't have any of the newer systems but I love using my AVR media live gamer portable which is fairly old I guess. But it does say to not use an HDMI splitter to bypass copy protection so I guess that means you can use a splitter and it will work but I've not tried it since I don't have any copy protection problems.

A new member of the family arrived yesterday. Meet Sony SLV-X810 HiFi Stereo multisystem VCR. AUD$80 One owner, clean internals, dim display (might work on that) but most importantly plays everything I've thrown at it so far. Through the DVDO it's the best VHS picture I've ever seen. Very happy with this. Can finally play my remaining tapes, thinking of getting into a lot more music VHS from Japan as the ones I have sound great.

No idea. Never seen a Sony SVHS deck in action.

Forgot to mention this but awhile back I snagged the ADV DVD of Five Star Stories for just $10 from a local chain store. I don't exactly trust those "Korean" copies on eBay and I had been wanting it for awhile. Eventually I'd like to get the LD as well.

Nice score, I bought it new and had the LD at the time.
Can't believe the price the DVD fetches now.

I can't remember but the LD was nicer in some way, possibly wider or something??? But you lose the end credits
as they replaced them in English, possibly removed the star background???

While the LD is nice I just can't justify keeping multiples and sold it years ago, they do come up on ebay cheap every so often.

There was a flee market last week-end in the city I live in, I did not found much but what I found was quite nice, 4 LaserDiscs at 1€ each (yeah I know there is a dedicated thread to that but they aren't really worth mentioning ) and a center speaker for 10€, since I did not yet had a center speaker, I decided to take it.
It's a Jamo Center 100, It gets the job done quite well in my opinion, especially for the price, I can now enjoy a good separation between dialogues and effects thanks to it.
