I'm surprised that I posted major updates on the Hardware section that got absolutely zero feedback, while minor topics are getting replies.

Something wrong?

Julien

Hello Julien !
I think that you are doing now the most important and difficult part of the Hardware database !
Good luck !
But maybe 90% of people (like me) will really understand all the possibilities of this new database and start to give advice when they will start to play with (adding Hardware to their collection, adding information to the hardware sheet, starting to take picture of their own hardware to contribuate, etc.)
I can't wait to see the result of this new function !!! Thank you again !
Remi

Hi Julien,

Please don't take a lack of comments as lack of interest or appreciation. I'm always tremendously grateful for your efforts with LDDb and have "put my money where my mouth is" more than once!

Admittedly I only just checked out the update on the website. Maybe I missed something but it seems at this point you can search a list of model numbers nothing more. It seems to work fine - maybe people just had nothing more to add at this point??

I think mimy is right that as things progress to more functionality then interest and activity will pick up.

Thank you Julien.

Ahhhh thanks :-)

Indeed there is little user interaction for now while I'm making sure the code base is sound before opening users updates and more.

There's just a bit of read-only GUI here: https://www.lddb.com/_test.php

It's a way to check/update parts vs. players like PacParts does:

DVL-90 on PacParts

  • Pioneer VEB1184 Belt, Load
  • Pioneer VWT1139 Laser Pickup (DVD)
  • Pioneer VWT1141 Laser Pickup (Ld)

Now if you enter DVL-90 as a device on the upper right search box and click on "Check parts", it will show the same + some more:

Attachment:
DVL-90.png
DVL-90.png [ 21.65 KiB | Viewed 5923 times ]

Parts # can be found on the Service Manual (https://manuals.lddb.com/LD_Players/Pioneer/DVL/DVL-90/DVL-90-EN_service_manual_Scan.pdf) that is also a part # in itself: RRV1710

If you enter RRV1710 in the upper left search box and click on "Check devices", the DVL-90 as well as DVL-700 shows up.

It's quite unstable right now, sometimes the search box will not refresh normally.

Ultimately, any parts confirmed to belong a registered device will has its own part/accessory entry that you can add to collection/wishlist and accept updates, pictures, comments as usual.

Sorry, this isn't as fun of a topic as how can I copy my LD to another format and is my player the best player to do so.

But thanks for doing it.

I saw the new search bar and searched out models I owned. There was no to link to go any further with regards to a page with actual info on those models. I assume that is still work in progress.

Nice to see all the update though, thanks and good work!

Correct!

The display/edit/update is still a work in progress.

I need to nicely split sections for: audio, video, MUSE, DVD, and others.

Also anything involving the insides of the machines is way over my head so it'd be a bit silly for me to try commenting on it :P

Sorry Julien,

Just very busy on other LD related topics and also because I only have one broken machine right now that is not even a priority to fix (thus, if most everything is working; no need to research parts @ this time).

In any case, I do appreciate you making this happen as we're definitely going to need as much info about parts as these players continue to age.

Thank you Julien,

No excuses for my part.
Real world activities have me stretched a bit more then ideal timewise.
Have been a stranger to the site and forum lately minus periodic checking here and there for shop duties and forum pm.

Looking forward to digging in and sampling the new upgrades to the data base directly.

Grateful for ALL you do keeping the LDDB growing sir.

Kind regards,

J

I must be stupid. Reading what exactly?

If I'm not responding to a thread its probably because nobody else did before it dropped off the list of "new posts". I tend to just read what's been responded to.

Both the contents and the new forum subject as well (Hardware Database discussions), thought I might have pushed wrong permissions and kept it private

I worked a little more on the parts section and was even considering breaking down all the parts by section like the Service Manual but that might be too much. Plus some are flagged NSP which is turns out means "Parts for which "NSP" is indicated on this table cannot be supplied.".

So maybe I'll stick to parts validated by users only and not try to break down players entirely into their parts.

You are right. Connecting every parts to players would be every hard, and would take month...
Maybe you could just connected together very important parts only ? (I don't know anything about that. But like, pick-up, belts, trays).
Good luck !
And I am happy to read about what you are doing !
Please continue to inform us ! Even if my lack of knowledge and good sens cannot help you so much, I try to read every day about LDDB evolution !

Yes! I've reached that conclusion as well.

This is only Section #1 of the CLD-99... clearly it's too much:

Letting just anyone interact with the "part/accessories" section might be too challenging.

I'm considering giving an "Expert" badge to some trusty users with good knowledge of LD hardware that would let them access this advanced section.

Otherwise everybody will be able to interact with the regular hardware devices section. Right now I'm at 121 table fields to be able to describe 99% of the LD-related hardware. Might need a few more!!

When you do the search for hardware on the main page like the movie titles is there a way to have it so it doesn't say title missing please submit it? I mean calling it a title is weird unless its done globally and can't change the value to say something different like hardware.

I am not trying to nitpick or complain here. I am curious as how it is set up.

Just because the hardware submit page is not ready yet :-)
