N.B. - For those of you who have "auto flip" players.

If you are going to play an LD and you know for a fact that you will only be viewing Side-B of a particular LD (for whatever reason) do you.

1) Put the disc in normally and then press "B" on the remote and let the player flip the lens to the other side

or

2) Put the disc in upside down and press "A" on the remove to access the content so the lens does not flip over to the other side

:)
Cheers,

I just put side B facing up.

Why put any extra wear and tear on the side flip mechanism?

Same. Aside from unnecessary wear, it is just quicker. Especially on older players.

For the most part, I guess I prefer to have the sides match up so I am willing to do the flip to play a B side.

Also, if I’m lazy about stopping the machine in time before a flip, I occasionally prefer to start on Side B to ensure the disc comes to a stop. I also do this if I’m playing something like the Star Wars Special Edition where The Empire Strikes Back begins on Side 4 and I want to make sure it stops after the side end instead of accidentally catching the conclusion of A New Hope on Side 3 :).

Either way, it’s whatever your preference is.

Many will just play Side A if you press Side A, but I usually forget to press it.

Oh…. I had no idea the player could work like that. I’ll have to try it next time. I learn something new everyday.

Same here.

Another nice feature on some players is where you can resume playback from where you powered it off.

I've been doing it like this ever since I had LaserDisc.
If I only want to watch one side, I press "A" on the remote.
If it's side B, I insert it into the player upside down, and hit "A" as usual.
It just works :)

Zeta must be busy since he didn't chime in on this one.

I put the side I want to watch down on both single and dual sided players. This practice is good for the machine, bad for the OCD. A rare occurrence, my care for the machine overwrites my OCD.

I guess I am changing my answer about playing Side 2 of a disc on A side after verifying on my ProScan 2090 clone that indeed the player will not flip to B side if I start play with the Side A button vs Play button .

I suppose I will start reading my manuals more often now .

Last night I finished watching LifeForce laserdisc with my dad and we were on side B or side 2 so I put the disc with 2 on top so it didn't have to change sides. No point overusing that feature if we know overtime it could stop changing sides and would have to be repaired. Also LifeForce laserdisc is kind of whacked. The first side of the laserdisc has a condensed trailer which practically shows the entire movie in 2-3 minute trailer. It's like why bother watching the movie if the trailer shows everything. I had to fast forward that on Thursday because I didn't want my Dad spoiled even though we seen movie in past but he had forgotten about most of it as did I. I hadn't seen it in awhile.

The trailer showed “everything” including Mathilda May? Must be an R rated trailer. :wtf:

Those trailers are the worst

I seem to remember that it's the same type of deal with the trailer for "Sorcerer" - the Friedkin one.

If I remember correctly I do think it was an R rated trailer because I think they did show nudity. I was mostly talking about the story being completely explained in the trailer as well as many scenes. I might have to capture the trailer and upload it here so you guys can see how much it spoils the movie. It's ridiculous. It literally shows most of the beginning and end of movie in the trailer in that order. Also if there is nudity i'll have to post a warning and hopefully it can stay up because I know this is suppose to be a family friendly forum. However there's worse things people see on the internet like tiktok videos.
