Do you know what sort of person talks about how great NTSC is? The kind of person who’s never completed a film. People who think LPs sound better than SACDs do not record. This is all noise. Only a person who has followed every element since the original recording can say how good of a job the medium did in representing the work. Punters on the retail end can talk all they want with each other about what final product they prefer but they weren’t there for principle photography, mixdown, color grading, etc. If the person playing the baselines says, “Phillips microcassettes perfectly capture my sound” then I guess you can believe him but he probably plays in a punk band. There’s a reason new Yes albums come out on 180g LP and Blu-ray Audio in the same package…fans want the absolute coolest format but also the one that sounds waaaaaaaay better not just to most fan but to the actual band.

The idea that LD is more accurate at color reproduction than anything except VHS is not just ignorant, it’s much worse. It’s a belief based on (ie: a lie created by) the person’s inner ideology and zero actual data. LD is a terrific example of NTSC but it’s still NTSC. It’s interlaced, low resolution, and COMPRESSED TO HELL, especially in the color realm, regardless of what this fool feels.

He cannot articulate his feelings in a compelling way. He has no data to prove/explain what he he says he is experiencing. It’s like a UFO sighting and I think it should be given the same respect…none…because we’ve been through all this before. He has no point other than “everything you know is wrong”. You’ll never be able to *explain* reality to him because the only reality of interest to him is the one with the weird ironic twist where VHS is better than penicillin instead of simply more or less the first format and therefore considerably improved upon by succeeding products.

A world where the hard work of engineers produces a less expensive, more popular, totally superior format to replace his childhood things is an existential issue for Forper. He is nothing but his childhood things. If Blu-ray is real it invalidates him completely. If progress is possible that too invalidates him.


If LDDB is not going to ban Forper yet again I propose creating a forum section just for him and not letting him view or post anywhere else. That way he could run full open loop but only in a dunk tank sort of setting where it’s easier to help regular users understand that arguing with him is stupidity hunting expiration where you can only shoot yourself in the foot.

I have a beautiful Philips VCR 457 (mono, but I use an audio doubler) and I'm doing something very similar to what you did, I'm ordering some VHS tapes of some films that I really like and they're on DVD! I also recorded some episodes of the 5th season of the series called "the office" - I really like the quality of the VHS tapes, the analogue sounds beautiful to my eyes! ✨

My player belonged to my mother, it was very well preserved and it sat still for more than 13 years... last year I decided to revive this wonder and here I am with my small collection!

Gee, I don't agree with you on the topic (yes, RF seemlessly blends colours, thus resulting in more natural colours, that view is backed up my many other opinions other than mine) but I don't remember savagely insulting anyone over and over and calling for their banning.. maybe..if anyone needs banning, it's you? Not that I would want that, but if you're going to attack me, can I defend myself and call out the hypocrisy? Is that okay with you?
