I’m a mechanic. I’m not exactly proud of it but I basically know everything about cars. I’m at the point where I’ve never been more disenchanted with cars. I have a degree, loads of qualifications, a Wiki in my head, 20+ years experience. There are people who know more than me about automotive service…but not many.

Here’s the deal though. If I’m walking down the street with my girlfriend, who is a nurse, and a F-150 drives by making horrible clunking sounds and making black smoke from its tailpipe and she says, “That guy probably has a light on his dash” I’m going to agree with her. She’s right. I have a better idea of what trouble codes are stored in the ECU but ANYONE CAN SEE THE TRUCK IS SCREWED. They can also smell it and hear it. They don’t need any expertise.
